Calling all East Coasters...transport help needed please

Post by Laura »

Hi everyone
We are trying to get Mama dog who I have posted about many times in the chows needing a home section and who Larry recently posted about in the community section to her foster home in Bernville, Pa. A member of this forum, who I will allow to name themselves, has agreed to foster her! =D=
They have renamed her Kali. She is a small black female chow and is very friendly with me. Starved for attention and a home.
Long story short she has been sitting in a pen on a lot in a business district with 25 other dogs in pens for a year and a half. Her benefactor who rescued dogs (too many, but that's another story) died December '06. She is fed, watered and gets her annual shots but other then a pat on the head from the guy who cleans up the pens, that is her life. Caged 24/7. The benefactors son has been left to try and find homes for all of these dogs. More bad news...there is now a sign up stating that the property is for lease so I have no idea what that means for the dogs. There are 2 black chow mixes there as well a variety of other dogs. It is beyond sad.
We need transport help. Larry is working on it with me. I am in Alabama...she needs to get to Pa.
I cannot drive her the entire way. It's over 13 hours one way and I just can't afford it nor have the time right now. I am open to different routes...we can go up through Tenn and cut through the Virginia's and Maryland (quickest according to mapquest) or we can go through Ga and the Carolina's and up that way.
If anyone can help please let me know where you are located and how far you can drive...etc. I do not have the $500 right now to fly her, buy a crate, vet her, and all of that and I don't want to ask for money because so many of you are already helping with Chango...etc. I can drive her at least 4 hours one way or I can chip in $200 towards airfare and stuff and of course do all the leg work.
If anyone can spare the time and gas money to drive a transport route please let me know and maybe we can pull it off for this little girl.
Thanks!

I live in PA towards the Harrisburg area and could definitely help if you come up through Maryland way. I work in Harrisburg and could meet up after work or anytime on the weekend.

Hey when do u need the transport? Reason I am asking is because a rescue has asked me to drive from SC to upstate NY. taking puppies from the shelter here to up there.. I may be doing that run or will be doing another one the first weekend of June... need to find out how many dogs we have going but can possibly sqeeze in another let me know... only thing is getting her to SC first...

so let me know.. if that wont work would be glad to drive some in SC if she comes thru the midlands but she will probably have to go thru greenville which is on the other side of the state..

Oh bless your heart. I will email you and we'll work it out if at all possible! Either option. That would be so great.
Sam thanks...maybe between the 3 of us we can get it done or maybe just me and Lil w/out bugging you.
So exciting!

The chowkidz are the lucky one's who are going to foster Kali for awhile. =D= We greatly appreciate anyones help that can get this little girl out of where she is and up here to PA so she can start to enjoy her life again. We know gas prices are killing everyone  but hopefully w/ everyone that is on this site we can fill in the gaps.

OK maybe we can horse trade........Laura is offering $200 Chowkidz will find $75 somewhere to help w/ airfare. I am going to post in the general section a trade. If someone is willing to help cover the difference who could use a battery operated cleaning machine that retails for over the difference i will get them one. Check out http://www.motor-scrubber.com.
It is great for kennels, RV's, boats, pools and home use.

Ah, here's the Kali thread Laura was referring to in another post.

I can transport from MD to PA. Chowkidz how long did it take you to get from us to you?

Anyhow, I have a crazy work schedule, but if someome could please pm me with details or when you'd like me to do it I can give you my availability. Usually I'm off on Thursdays and Fridays and weekend afternoons (after 4pm).

Thanks so much Kat! We have decided to just fly Kali to Larry. She will be safe and hopefully find a family of her very own which I'm not sure she has ever had all thanks to Larry and Terrina! =D= Thanks so much for all of the offers of help from everyone and especially to Michelle for wanting to foster this little girl!
It's amazing how when we all work together the lives we can save! To me that is the best part of this site. One Chow at a time!
Even the bickering and sometimes ugliness can't take away the joy of working together to find a chow a new life. It is the greatest feeling even if all we can do is cheer from the sidelines.

I have to go to Montgomery AL tomorrow (Friday) morning for work. IF I can get out of there in time I can swing by Franklin and pull this dog, hold him overnight, and take legs A, B, C ending up in Anderson SC.

Someone PM me so I can give you my cell to work out any other details.
