Colonel's 3rd entropion surgery-UPDATE

Post by bama »

As most of you know, Colonel has been around and around with
surgeries.
After his second entropion surgery, Mark and I decided that Colonel needed a break before he had his third and hopefully, final entropion surgery. In the meantime, I've kept ointment in his eyes several times per day.
He's been very sweet and sits nicely when I apply the ointment, but he's tired of that routine.
So, for a lack of better termonology, I've been, "vet shopping" to find someone to do his surgery.
Colonel and I have visited a few veternarian offices and,
"surveyed" their practice.
The search was interesting, to say the least.
There is one thing all vets agreed upon...
Colonel's previous surgeries were, well...less than one would expect from an Opthamology surgeon.
Long story short..
Colonel is scheduled for surgery on July 19th with
Dr. Russell. Dr. Russell is not a specialist, however he is "supposed" to be excellent in surgery.
And, Colonel likes him!
And I liked the way he interacted with Colonel!
Princess Buttercup has already been to see him and he was great with her, as well.
I just hope Colonel will not be mad at me and still give me
purple kisses after all of this! :

edited) UPDATE:
Daddy's flying home today, because Colonel is having surgery in the morning. Colonel will need all the support he can get...he's so freakin' tired of people messing with his eyes everyday. He cowls when he see's my hand coming at him with goop for his eyes! It breaks my heart to see him associate me with eye torture.

Despite the costumes you are a good chowmom, I am sure once his eyes are better he will forgive you and forget it. Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone for thinking of Colonel.
I'm a bit slow to post these before and after
photos, because I've been a bit emotional today.
It's breaking my heart to see my chowboy going
thru this surgery again.
We were able to pick him up late this afternoon
and bring him home. Mark had to carry him out.
At home now, he's still groggy. He wants to
wander about in his daze. So, we are staying
close to him and keeping him in one place.
His lower lids were trimmed and stitched all the way
across and into the corners.
I'm dreading the days ahead with that darn e-collar.
But, this surgery looks to have done the trick! Yeah!

Blessings for a speedy recovery to Colonel, may this entropian be fixed finally. I am so sorry to hear you both have to go thru this 3x. I know how hard it is to feel like you are torturing them. You are doing the best you can for him and he will be looking up at you thru clear eyes soon! Fast healing to him and warm thoughts to you and yours.

Thanks to all of you! I'm glad we have had you guys along the way to understand our frustration.
When they brought Colonel out for us to take home, he would quickly squat and paw at his e-collar. He was hurting, and it made my heart sink, I couldn't help but cry.
Mark drove our SUV home, while I rode in the back holding my big ole chowboy snuggly in my arms. I just had to hold him close and reassure him that this is over and all will be fine soon. (I think I was really trying to convince myself?)
Colonel is so sweet, all the way home, even tho he was groggy, he was giving my arm purple kisses, space out a moment, then return to earth to give me more purple kisses! Have I told you guys lately, how much I love this chowboy?? :D
Thanks again to all of you for being good chowfriends,
you're the best!

Here's hoping he heals quickly and that this is his LAST surgery! Looking at his "before" photo, it's hard to believe that a vet could have done entropion surgery on him .. I hope that you have had a chance to express your feelings to the previous vet!

I can't believe this was his 3rd surgery. I feel so, so bad for him - no one would want to go through that, the poor thing. I also can't believe the difference in the pictures.

Wishing The Colonel a speedy recovery, and an easy one for you.
