weight..size..age

Post by bchow »

Looking at different books/internet sites, we were suprised how the various weights and measurements given to a Chow varied.
So thought we would start this little thread:

Whats the size of your Chow?

At 7 Months ours are 47 and 48 and a half Pounds.

(when do they stop growing)?

Probably have to start converting weights and measures for this thread!

This subject comes up every now and again. We obscess over our Chowdren's weight. I think proportion is more important, but since we don't have mass index numbers for the furkids we'll stick to weight.

Lily is the tiny in these parts. There are others, but those chubby's weigh in at 36-38 pounds! Lily hit 33 pounds around the age of 7 months and regardless of how much food I tried to get in her, that is where she stayed. She will be 2 in June. The vet says she looks fine.

This is a good one...mine run the gamut. Bear was about 4 when I adopted him and he weighed 54 pds. Now at almost 6, he just weighed in at 86 pds. The vet said he could stand to lose a little, but he still looks fine and is very healthy. I usually give him and Samantha Nutro lite treats. Sammy's a little chunky monkey at about 50 pds...poor thing, she's short like me. Ping is about 56 pds, but you couldn't tell. She looks very svelte. And Tod weighed only 35 pds at the vet. He's a recent stray so he's still building up his weight. I think he may be mixed with Golden Retriever, so he's gonna get a bit bigger.

hi,
mr. pookieface is 37.5 lbs. at 1 1/2 years old. he seems to have stopped growing. vet said he looked great at his last check up. still, when he's wet you can see he's very lean, although he looks quite tubby because of all the fur.

Well our vet has said that Butters is just a big boy. He was 56lbs. at 6 months. He is almost 3 now and weighed in at 70lbs. last week. I was worried that me might be too heavy but my vet said to try and keep him between 65-70, he said anything lower and he would starve. But like I said he comes from big chows apparently.

Tess was 30lbs at about 11 months old when my family found her, but she was about 5-10lb underweight...she was 45lbs last week when I took her to the vet at 9 years old, down from 50lbs. She had gotten a little chubby over the last year, but is almost back down to her healthy weight...she has always been a little smaller than what I have found to be average size.

WOW, I didn't realize how much difference there IS in our Chows weight! I thought Sid was thin! This thread has changed my mind!

Sid turned 10 months old TODAY! HAPPY B.D. SID! And we were JUST at the Vet for a grooming and they ALWAYS weigh him. He weighs 58 pounds. :)

I'm always worrying about Millie & her weight! Although, since she had to have a haircut, you can see that she is very trim

At 6 months she is 41 pounds. Her Mama was 45 & her Dad is 63 I believe.

Jasmine must be a very big Chowgirl. She seems to be taller than most chows from the pics I see, and she at 2 years, weighs 65 to 70 lb. But the vet says she is a good weight for her size, proportions, and age.
