What a darling boy! I hope that you enjoy him as much as we enjoy our adopted older chow boy. He loves his "harem" of female Pit Bulls. He is much more loyal to me than my spoiled girls are. Those girls will just go off with anyone with a cookie, I swear.

A lot of times people take dogs to neighborhoods that look nice and look like someone will care for the dog and just leave them there. That is what happened to my Lucy (she was tied to a tree). She was well taken care of and no one had ever been mean to her. People lose their homes because of divorce, financial issues, whatever, or (very common with Chows and Pit Bulls) the landlord says to get rid of the dog or move. People can't always afford to move. So, lots of so-called strays had homes and even homes where people were nice to them.

Hugs to the furry guy and best wishes on your vet appointment.
Because owning just one banned breed isn't enough!

Bama,
I have been following all the Colonel's threads but haven't posted yet. I just want to say congratulations to you on the sweetest furbaby boy! After all your struggles and heart break with previous ones you definitely found the one that was meant for you!!!! Also big hero award goes to Alan and Sharon and Jan that took time out of their lives to save this darling and drive him half way to you!!!! This is awesome I'm glad fantastic people like you guys exist!!!

Colonel looks sooo happy to be with you and his daddy and his WAY COOL backyard where he can play and play!!!! No matter who his previous owner was he's much better off with you, we all know you will give him unconditional love, spoiling and deal with ANY of his health concerns.

Congratulations
Olga
PS. Hope his vet appointment goes ok.

Olivia and I are on pins and needles wondering what the vet report will be for my godchow - The Colonel. Maybe something is being done today.

Sharon and Alan: Perhaps you will let me know if you are coming to Bratenahl? Olivia and I would love to meet the second contingent on The Colonel's team.

Update: 3/14/07

The Colonel isn't healing so well, so we have put him on Anti-biotics. His slow response is probably due to a poor diet of late and the stress he has gone through doesn't help.
Another reason I felt it best to wait on the vet specialist to do his eye surgery is, I felt it would be too much of a shock to his system for him to under go another surgery on top of his current neuter job, travel stress, and the fact that he is underweight. The vet said he needs to gain 10 lbs, but I believe 15 would be a healthy weight for him.
If it wasn't hidden by fur, you would observe a large protruding backbone, with sagging skin, clinging to a rib cage. I'm feeding him a fortified diet, twice per day, with meaty treats inbetween. We're trying to build muscle and lean tissue. He'll be in much better shape for surgery in a couple of weeks.
Thanks again all.

BAMA: Good decision. Honestly, when he dug that hole in the ground under the tree, I really thought to myself that he was not going to last much longer, and that something had to be done in that moment. He has a lot of heart and a strong spirit and it kept him hopeful. Keep doing what you're doing. He should really stay on the course of antibiotics because if an infection develops, he's already down and doesn't have much body mass to fight it with. The antibiotics will help him fight infection, and in the meantime you'll be building him up. I know this is a difficult time right now, but it will get better. You won't regret it, when you see him come around in a few months and this will just be a memory. Hang in there - he really needs you.
