great pics..

That is a very sweet face. I was wondering what made you decide to rehome your dog? We have a chow/akita mix that I often think of finding a new home for but I feel so guilty because we have been her only stable home life. She was in a shelter at five months, adopted by an idiot that refused to feed...

the curious growl..socialization

:) We always really worked on socialization with our first chow since she seemed so nervous about strangers. Before she only had her immediate, DON'T come in my house growl. Now she has that curious growl. I first noticed it in one of those "dog friendly" hotels we stayed at. She heard the...

a chow afraid?

First of all let me tell you, my chows do that same thing. If they sense that you are nervous when a person comes up they will growl and not trust the person. Chows were originally protectors. We keep them inside our house and baby them but let me tell you, they are the best protectors of your famil...

Black chows...

I do actually know of some black chows in need of rescue. But they are here around Tennessee. I don't know if you wanted a puppy with papers because these are shelter dogs that were neglected or left by previous owners. They are beautiful and I tell my husband all the time, I need one. Not I want on...

I never realized the importance of feeding the right food. My husband grew up with a chow chow and really wanted another one. He also told me that they had fed him whatever until he really started having problems. They put the dog on a prescription salmon food. Vets don't usually carry it but they c...

senior panel

We did the senior panel on both dogs last year and both came up fine. Of course I understand that the vet may not do the whole thyroid panel. I can hardly get my physician to do that for me. I'm not worried with the aggression problem and not trying to dominate her. I don't want to provoke any unnec...

what a revalation

 The thyroid thing could be a start. Though we have never had all the bloodwork done, Rosie has had some weight gain and unable to lose it. She weighs almost twice what a healthy female chow would weigh. We switched her food and she is still very heavy for a chow chow. The Nutro Lite is about ...

My baby is turning on us...

:( :?: What do I do? One of my chows is becoming very aggressive. She wasn't always a sweet princess, don't get me wrong she's had her tiffs with our other dog. Lately, she has turned her anger toward my child and my husband. My daughter is only three and we have told her the importance of not mistr...

 My dog is Rosie is terrified. She is usually in the bed and on my pillow at the first little rumble of thunder and oh if she is outside, she's climbing the door and crying. Fireworks tend to do it to her also. We usually have to drive to the country and spend several hours to make sure she doe...

Itchy dog

We got our dog from a rescue group and she had been feeding her some cheap stuff from a tractor supply store. She was covered in hotspots and just really itchy. We put her on Iams and had no more problems after that. We used the Chicken and Rice. Nutro will take back the food and give you your money...

Scared vet

Ha! I know exactly what you are talking about. I am fostering a chow/akita mix and she seems to have entropia. The first vet I took her to was cheaper than my regular vet and since she is a foster dog we were trying to save money. Of course I had only rescued her three days before so she was just st...

Finding your chow

I actually found my first chow from a link on this website but you could look on Petfinder if there are no chows in need in your area. Always look at your local kill shelter. I saved my second chow on D day. I can't imagine someone putting her down. Good luck

Kennel cough

We had never had to worry about this vaccination until we came back to the states. The kennel we housed our dogs at while we closed on our house required the vaccine before you could leave your dog. I couldn't believe it. I understand I guess but we had just had the huge health certification just to...

My chow or spitz mix?

Hey, I read on your triumph over getting the Chow Chow NOT put on the dangerous dog list. Here in TN they are. We lived her five years ago when we got Rosie and Roxie and there was no problem then. We got sent to Germany for three years and came back and was told NO chows. No one even wanted to rent...
