re: watering hole for chow chows
Hi to all,
I'm wondering if there's a watering hole out there that is more chow resistant. I have several plastic ones currently but, my chows love to chew them apart. Are there any that are stainless steel or ceramic that can be purchased? I haven't been able to locate one. Can anyone give me a source? Thanx once again, your chow friend.

I know what you mean! I think jojasp5 means these Dogdad

They are great for messy drinkers (like my Alf ) or those who get soaked bibs all the time.
I'd be very interestred to hear if anyone does know of a tougher one. Although these are pretty cheap!

I use a large ceramic crock (like the kind that goes inside a crock pot). My mom got it for only a few dollars at a pottery outlet store years ago. It holds about a gallon of water and with 3 dogs and 4 cats, we need that much water. Ceramic/glass or stainless steel is the way to go...easier to clean, prevent bacterial growth.

I'm with Dogdad....
I use stainless steel mixing bowls for water and a stainless steel skillet to feed Colonel.
I also use a glass mixing bowl for water to which I
add a few drops of organic apple cider vinegar.
Can't put the vinegar into stainless steel.

I use stainless steel bowls from petsmart. they have this rubber like stuff on the bottom to keep them from slipping and are pretty cheap. I put them in a high driking bowl holder..
If you are using plastic remember to run them through the dishwasher everyday on high heat to keep the bacteria away. I would go with metal though if you have chewers.

I used to use stainless, but reverted back to my old ceramic bowls when the "moving food syndrome" got to be a problem on new floors. Leela was running into 'Zilla and he was NOT happy...and Caity was suddenly half way under the cupboard. The ceramic ones seem to do well, but they don't solve your problem of keeping water off the floor or off the bib.

Do you have a pottery shop nearby? If so take your waterhole in there have them do a mold of it and make a couple ceramic ones for you. Its a thought. Just don't go selling them, you know copyright/patent and all.jojasp5 wrote:Hi to all,

Ya.. you are welcome.. I should have patented the idea LOL...threedogjeep wrote:What an IDEA. I can make them myself. I have done pottery for a number of years and have a wheel and a kiln....bet I could even sell them!!!
I can see it....can't you....the threedog-hole!
No really... while you are making them, remember me.. the person who erm hinted at the idea... I have 8 thirsty dogs.. I expect fashion colors! (kidding ... regular colors will do just fine)

All kidding aside, I needed a new project to get me back into the art again. It's all been sitting there for a year! What a great way to spend the winter. I'm gonna start getting the room ready this weekend and see if I can find one of those bowls to model. Wonder if Petco has them?

When we got our first chow, Chia, we bought large Fiesta ware bowls at Bloomingdale's. (OK, yes, I know, but the color matched the kitchen floor tiles...) Now, somehow, we've ended up with at least 6 sets of large Fiesta bowls that we can pop right into the dishwasher and put clean ones down and we love the colors! Of course, they don't stop Tempest from drinking (or, I should more correctly say, slurping) the water, practically bathing her bib in it, then, to add insult to injury, she has even started putting her front foot in the bowl to keep Ming from drinking!
