She is Crazy!

Post by Auddymay »

Last night, Lily was laying in the kitchen, her favorite place to sleep. I've been watching her close, because she has been paw-licking, and I discovered 2 hotspots a few days ago that were probably there a while (BAD MUM)...anyway if she starts licking or scratching, I jump up and treat the itch.

I was eying her from the livingroom, and I swore I saw a mental break. She started staring at the floor, then was twitching, and jumping, and then layed down and was looking all over, like she was hunting. But it was not directed at one spot. She would jump up turn around, look all over, then flop back down, looking all over in a jerky motion, like she was being attacked on all sides.

I was concerned. Was she having a reaction to her hotspot cream? I went to investigate. she stood up when I came in, and then I saw it-a big old cricket. It must have crawled under her, accounting for the quirky jumping, and when she stood up, it m ust have hopped, accounting for her looking around all over. It moved, and Lily tried to get it. What a brave little huntress! It went by the shoes at the back door, and I helped Lily by turning over some shoes (she appreciated the assist). I don't know if she finally killed it, but I was sure relieved to know my girl wasn't losing it!

Oh bless her! It's funny when they catch a big bug. All this effort is spent in catching the thing and then once they've got it's oh poop what do I do now?

EEWW crickets!! They make Butters jump up off all 4 paws. If he could scream I think he would sound like a little girls squeeling and jumping. But what fun he has. They do look spazy!

At one point, I think it crawled under her for refuge! It was by her back foot when she stood up.

That was one foolish cricket. Don't be surprised if you find a dismembered corpse at some point, I just found the mauled remains of a fly by the door.

A couple of weekends ago, there was a huge wolf spider on the wall outside, and when she went to investigate it jumped out at her. She cleared the ground with all four feet. Hilarious.

Thats funny. I had Gracie and Princess outside one day, Gracie was laying under a tree enjoying herself when all at once she jumped up, started turning in circles looking on the ground around her. Then came running to me to go inside! I never did know what it was that had startled her so badly that she needed to go inside right away. A ant maybe, cricket, who knows. lol, what a brave soul she is.

Mine do stuff like that when they get any kind of a critter on them, it's funny. You should see my nutballs, we have had a lot more locust this year than most and they all like to bite them and kill them. It sounds pretty funny hearing those things buzzing around in their mouths. Sometimes I had to wonder if they have a brain, then they will show me just how smart they are.

Maggie freaks out about flies! She has destroyed the wooden blinds in my front window, as well as the curtain on my back door, all in the name of fly hunting!! She was chasing a fly in the family room and jumped in the recliner, over a table, knocking a drink over, onto the couch and onto another table, knocking the lamp down... all fly chasing!!!

If she saw a grasshopper, I'm pretty sure she would just stroke out!

Auddymay, Lily is trying to save you the hassle of hiring an exterminator, or even buy bug spray. She probably figures if she can save you money by killing bugs, you could buy her stuff instead  The chow mind, always thinking ahead!

Tess and Maggie could never meet...there would not be a fly or house left standing because Tess is just as bad with flies. I'm afraid one of these days she is going through one of our windows trying to catch them. Once she sees them, there is no getting her attention until it's dead. This is the dog that never tries to hunt anything else. She loves other dogs, cats, doesn't go after other wildlife, but flies, and bees outside make her lose her mind. Of course, if we get out the fly swatter to kill flies, Tess runs to hide in the attic, Tacia has been known to bust out of the front door to leave...they both are petrified of the flyswatter.

Crickets, large beetles, roaches (they pluck those right off the outside of the door before they come in)and even cicadas, they love them all. They eat them whenever they can get away with it.(I make them spit them out when I catch them chewing on one and then it's up to me to put the thing out of it's misery) Always funny to see them run into the fence because they're chasing a butterfly or grasshopper.

We have them all the time..Cicadas, but we just got through the 17 year one... (the one in the picture) big, ugly, dumb bugs. Evidently they are "yummy" because the dogs LOVE them. we had a lot of butterflies this year because the birds were eating all the cicadas instead. :-)

LOL, whan I started reading the thread I thought "I bet it's a bug"   I LOVE watching Specila do that with a bug. He is also very disappointed if it dies, he never eats them, just enjoys the hunt and the play. :D

We get this pretty variety,lol

They're really clumsy ,dunno where they take their flying classes, but they'll fly straight into the deck or wall and will knock themselves out.
We got tons of them this year, every time you open a door at night there's a couple of them trying to get in.My daughter is here for a while, and bugs scare the bejezus out of her,so she's always glad when the dogs save the day and catch the things.

LOL @ TJ! :laughloud: :laughloud: :laughloud:
We have cricket fights every night about dark-thirty!
To date, Colonel is one fine cricket chaser! It's a good thing I haven't bet money on him, because the cricket always get away! :laughloud:

Maybe, Lily needs to help Colonel out?

FUNNNNEEEE!!!
I think these dogs need a job to do!
Timber will also hunt out in the yard and then bring up on to the porch these giant moths,& huge crickets (ugh!--I didn't know the bug world could grow to be so big!!) And then she plays with them, looking confused & disappointed if they do expire, and she leaves these fleshy bug corpses all over my porch.
I suppose maybe she eats some of them before she brings them up--I don't know but do suspect and refuse to think much about it. I love getting purple kisses, and, and, and, that's just gross!
