OMG can you imagine how much it costs to feed a dog that size?? Are we sure he is not photoshopped.

I'm with Angie on this one. I saw that photo on a chain e-mail with several doggies. Our bull mastiff, Athena, was half that size. If that photo was real, then Zorba, I think you said that was his name, would be in the "Guiness Book of World Records".

While I haven't been able to verify the picture...Zorba de la-Susa set the record in 1989 at 315lb. It is said that he actually weighed in at 342lb, but was never verified. He also hold the record for the world's longest dog, so with those kind of stats, I can believe the picture is him.

My mom's cousin who works in a vet's office said they have a man the comes in twice a year for his bullmastiffs wellness check-up, to get heart-worm medication, and flea prevention medicine. His bill is always over $200 just because of the huge amount of preventative meds he takes (both heart-worm and flea doses are based on size). The guys dog weighs just under 250lb. They once asked about how much food he eats and the guy responded they didn't want to know. Funny thing is, last time she saw him, he was considering getting another. I like big dogs, but 500lbs of dog in the house is a lot.

How about getting a leash stout enough to walk him. It would take a football team to keep him in check on a walk.

Anybody notice that the picture is from a web site called "Museum of HOAXES"?

I still think Angie is right regarding the photoshopping of the photo. I googled Zorba's registered name and found out that he is in the Guiness Book of World Records... he is an English Mastiff... from England. So, why is the lady driver on the photo of the link on the left side and not the right side of the car? So, though Zorba is a real dog, the photo is doctored.

On the English Mastiff web site, I found out he was born in 1981 and lived to be 11-12 years old. I also found these photos of Zorba:

Looks like a different dog than the one on the photo link.

11=12 years for a dog that size is a good age, since the giant breeds have the shortest life spans of less than 10 years on average. Also these mastiffs for all their size are big babies. Their worst traits is that they are accidently destructive, (can you imagine what happens when one of these decides to chew on the chair leg?, Chair leg all gone...).

The worst thing is that the modern mastiff breeds are thought by many people to be the same as the Roman Mastiff type "War Dogs" and people get them thinking they'll have some sort of killer dog and what they get is a very gentle giant and they abandon them or abuse them to try and make them "mean"

On another note, about people keeping multiple giant dogs, I saw a lady this weekend with one of the smaller mastiff breeds and an Irish wolfhound, both sitting so nicely for her, she was a little woman too, sitting the two dogs heads were at her chest level.
