Can you split that up more, You have diamond that has killed dogs with Canidae which some use and Imas trash mixed with innova that people feed, don't want to see what you did to Nutro.

I would take Diamond and Iams off the list, Don't want people to think they are worthy of feeding it to our Chows.

Should this be for kibbles? LEO's on Solid Gold Wolf King at the moment(as I am thinking of changing since it's been about 3m/s since we changed from Innova), but it's mixed w/ canned by Solid Gold, Wellness, Newman's Own or Innova.

Nope. Couldn't split them up. I had all 42 of the brands on individual poll lines and after an hour, I was only able to create I think there are 7 or so lines. Wish I could split them up, that was my intention.

I want to keep the less purer brands on since sometimes that's what some people have access to and some people may be able to economically afford at the moment. Didn't want to infuse a bias from the start. So it's staying on.

However, everyone can post their indiviual blend and which brand they use in addition to the answering the poll. I'm just hoping this could be a "one stop" tool for members who are looking to change food or newbies who are looking what us members are currently feeding. Just a tool. Not a commentary. You-all can do that on this thread. I encourage it actually.

Solid Gold Wolf King Salmon and Bison here. Special loves it and we love it. We also give him the Solid Gold canned foods on occassion, wither mixing it in or giving it to him later as a treat (in small portions).

At the moment I'm feeding Nutro Lamb and rice. When I have just Jazz I get the food from my vet. It's prescription but I don't think its the 'Hills' that you mention? I guess it could be, but it is very expensive. Peanut is a pig whereas Jazz is a dainty eater.

I probably give more rawhide sticks/bones than I should, but try to limit doggy cookies. With 2 dogs it gets too expensive.

As for people food, only if she will eat fruits/veggies. She eats strange things I wouldn't normally expect a dog to eat. Son got Jazz to eat the base of Broccoli because Peanut does. Both eat cashew nuts and slivered almonds, which surprised me.

I rarely give bites of meats because it leads to pancrentitus (sp?)

I fed Leo Nutro chicken and rice, he was allergic to lamb. He really like it. What would you suggest for a puppy? I had to swich Leo a bunch of times due to allergies, but we finally got it right!

I feed my chow Purina ONE, lamb and rice. Mikki eats it whenever she feels like it. One or two cups a day, depending on physcial activity.

Twice a week I cook a batch of basmati rice. I steam carrots, yams. I stir fry minced, ground lean turkey, add water, add 1 tspn. of molasses, a pinch of salt, let it simmer for 20 minutes or until it thickens. Mix all three and serve to chow twice a week. Mikki chows this down in 10 seconds flat. Can't say the same about the kibble.

I feed Miss Pooh Bear Solid Gold. So if you can get it, I would recommend their puppy food, WolfCub. I sent some samples down to Cabo and his mom and Cabo really enjoyed it. If you want to try it out, ask your store to get some samples from Solid Gold or buy a small 5 lb bag so your pocket book won't feel so bad if your puppy doesn't go for it. Also, some stores have a buy back policy the manufacturer insists on. Mind does.

My boy, Zhuyo, thrived on Hill's Prescription Z/D Ultra for the last 3 years of his life. I know vets carry another prescription line, I don't remember it right now. I'll edit this post when I remember.

Be careful of rawhide (and pig ears). That stuff can tear things pretty bad inside, not to mention get caught in passageways. Once they chew it through to softness, some chows will just swallow the entire thing whole... so be careful.

Morning meal- raw food
Recipe:
5 lbs ground meat (muscle and organ meat)
1 lb calf liver (ground)
1 large bunch brocolli
1 small pack of carrots
2 1/2 cup brown rice- cooked
1 apple
1/2 cup blueberries or cranberries
3 eggs WITH shell (use only organic eggs to avoid hormones and contamination of the shell)
1 t. Alfalfa (ground)
1 t. DHEA Powder
1 t. yucca root
1/2 t. kelp
1 T. cod liver oil
1 T. Safflower oil (only natural cold pressed with Vit E)

Directions:
I have the butcher grind up the meats, then I pulverize the remaining ingredients in the food processor.
Make into hamburger patties,
place individual patties on a cookie sheet to freeze.
Bag up the individual patties.
I get out one patty for each night for the morning feeding.

Evening Meal:
I rotate between the following 3 brands of kibble each month.
Wellness Brand
Blue Buffalo
Solid Gold Wolf King

***I should add here that I mix these brands together when there is about 1/3 of the bag left. So, I don't switch kibble brands abruptly.

***Also, I frequently buy frozen chicken wings for treats. Of course, they are thawed before serving. Wings are served raw. Do Not serve cooked chicken bone, it will splinter!

Bama, finally someone who feeds Blue Buffalo, I've been asking about it a while ago, but it seemed nobody was using it. What's it like anyhow and why do you rotate the kibble?

Millie's on SG wolfcub with Salmon oil to encourage her to eat it (not a fan of kibble really) for breakfast. Then, SG plus sardines / SG tins in the evening. I'm thinking of alternating with Timberwolf Organics as well. Does anyones else use it?

Hi! I was browsing for homecooked pet meals and suggestions for store-bought foodies for my dogs...I never tried feeding them with raw anything...won't they get worms or something? The only brands available for my dogs here are Alpo, Purina,Eukanuba. But I haven't seen pollsters recommending them. Any thoughts on these brands?

I brought the Blue Buffalo Senior formula for Aslan. He LOVES it. I also brought the Solid Gold online and will receive in about 3-4 days, will see how fatboy will like it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have used all 3 adult lines of SG and they love it. The holistic isn't as rich I guess, so I have to mix SG canned (cut 1:1 with water to a gravy). I only had that type for Hunters sake and they just finished it off. Now back to Hund-N-Flocken. I had them on Wolf King but they were gaining weight too fast so I went back to HNF. I still have a unopened bag of WK that I will save for the next rescue who needs to fill out their frame.

I was told by the pet store manager that the SG canned was rich and fatty and to go easy on it, so I only use 1/6th of a can for each dog 2 times a day, mixed with warm water and mixed into the dry.

Since the Pet food recall, I am staying with Solid Gold products.
They are harder for me to get, but I feel it is worth the drive to a different town to it.

Right before the poisoning became public my girl was having a tough time getting accustomed to her meds and then had a long bout of e coli. My holistic vet had me prepare a homecooked diet - baked/boiled chicken, steamed brown rice, and canned pumpkin. After 3-4 days she was getting better and I switched out the pumpkin for fresh green veggies. I have found that the cost is about the same and the effort is minimal since I'm already cooking for myself. Besides, she wants to eat whatever I'm eating so now we are eating just about the same things. Funny, I noticed after a month that she no longer scratched her face or licked her paws. Like I always figured -- over the counter, packaged, and processed can never provide the best nutrition for man, nor beast.

Yep Miss Pooh Bear sent Cabo a wonderful gift. He's now on Wolf King and loves it. I found a distributer in my area who delivers to the house and is also a Chow owner. He and his wife love Cabo and Cabo waits patiently by the front door waiting for them when he knows they are coming with food and treat!

here's my two cents lol
...I promised myself to never feed another dog only kibbles their entire life...the reason is that my beloved chow from 14 years past away last spring and as i was looking for adopting a pet, i came accross a lot of infos on what was really in pet food...so hoping they won't have such a painfull end as my sheena did, i did some homework
at first, I tried the barf diet but the meat I got in petstores disgust me...i realize it wasn't such a great quality after all! It was hard for me, as a vegetarian, to get meat, but i tought it was important to make an effort for my pets, so they could get the best diet possible.i then went to the grocery store to get meat
I now feed them home cooked diet and vary their food as much as possible.
I give them one homecook meal in the morning, wich give them energy for the day and is digested faster, and a meal of kibbles in the evening (Eagle pack holistic, Innova or Holistic blend ), wich takes between 10-12 hours to digest. When I am to be away for the day and have more time for them in the evening, I do the opposite.
Here are my guidelines for my recipes:
1/3 meat (red meat or chicken or fish)
1/3 cereal (mainly rice, sometimes dried soja)
1/3 veggies
I add crushed pumpkin seed, black walnut and garlic twice a month wich have properties for deworming (so I've been told by a holistic vet)
I also give them organic yoggurt or cottage cheese every other day and 1-2 eggs each once a week.
I hope this might help some of you that are wondering about homecookdiet, it is not more expensive and it is acually a lot easier to feed them than to cook for myself 'cause I'm a lot fossier lol ...and they enjoy everything I give them. Also, since I did that, they all have cleaner teeth and a better breath !

Azmira Lamb Meal & Barley Dog Food or Classic Formula Dog Food mixed 50/50 with Innova dry as desired. (My dogs eat like cats.)

1/2 can of Azmira Lamb and Barley canned dog food for each in the afternoon.

I feed my Juice a combo of Merrick Puppy Plate or the Venison meal and Wellness Puppy food.
I read online that Fish and Rice diets are best for Chows because that's what the used to eat waayyy back when in China, but she refuses to eat it.
As long as she's eating.. I'm happy

She also likes Apples so when she won't eat I'll cut up and de-seed an apple and throw a few pieces in her bowl and she dives right in.

Natures Balance (I think the name is) has these large "logs" of natural Beef, Lamb and Turkey meats that Juice loves. I use them to train her mostly, but sometimes she gets some for dinner.
