Male Samoyed and Male Chow

Hello, everyone!
Our chow chow Hank passed away over a year ago, and long story short, we now have a 7-month-old Samoyed and are on a waiting list for a chow puppy who we will get after the Samoyed is a year old.
The problem is, I would LOVE a male chow again, but I've read awful things about having any breed of male dogs together.
Has anyone introduced a male chowling to an adult male of another breed? Did it work out, or was it just heartbreak?
