Hello! I need some help please!

Post by Bamboolove »

Hi!
I'm a new chow owner. Bamboo is 7 months old.
He has been in the family for over 5 months. I have a 6 year old boy and a 1 yr old cat.
He has always been great with both.
He loves people, other dogs, other cats. I take him to my son's school, and interacts amazingly with a bunch of kinds all around him.
He is a very happy well balanced dog.
I always thought it was the best puppy I've ever met.
Really obedient, never did anything he wasn't supposed to do.
But like a month ago I decided to neutered him.
Just because I don't like the idea of ppl mating dogs just to make money,
And well I live in cancun Mexico... Not the perfect weather for a chow.
Anyways... Like 3 days after he was neutered he started chewing a book.
I thought it was the anesthesia, bc it took him a log time to recover.
And the even bit me when he was under. He couldn't move but he bit me...
And after the book he started shattering everything around the house.
And he never did anything like that before the surgery...
What should I do to make him stop?
I bought him toys, I walk him 4 times a day. (Since I know walks can't be long specially on this weather)
And I think this just don't make sense...
What should I do???
Thanks!

First, Welcome to the forum! I'm sorry you did not receive any replies to your question. I hope by now, Bamboo has recovered from his surgery and is back to his young self. From what you describe, I think his system was having a difficult time withdrawing from the anesthesia they gave him for his neuter. While some anesthetics affect a chows breathing, other anesthetics cause delirium as the drug/s wear off.

Hi, do you suggest neutering a male chow? I plan to neuter my 7 month old chow, what would be the best time and what're the things that I should consider before I do so, to prevent any negative effects on behavior?
