Hi everyone!
Recently you may have read a story about a blind and deaf chow dumped at a shelter. Fortunately, she was rescued and while she seems to have her ups and downs she has a very loving forever home and a rescue that is going to pay for all food and medical care for her entire life! For whatever reason the person running the facebook fan page suddenly shut it down and I have offered to run it. If you have a facebook account please "like" this page as it will be the way to get updates about her condition.
Thanks! Nean

As far as everyone knows, this chow is now in a forever foster home and no longer in danger.

While that may be the case, we still like to keep up with the progress of these rescues, especially if a donation was given. Also, Kaiya has health issues, so she is far from being out of danger.

For anyone that wants to read the original story, here is the link: http://www.examiner.com/dogs-in-nationa ... -forgotten

And this is an except from it to explain why they started the Chipin page:
"Of the hundreds of people that promised financial assistance, only three followed through. Three people out of hundreds. Mary Ann and Pet Rescue North Inc., are not backing out on Kaiya, but the lack of response rattles their faith in humanity."

The Chipin will be active until Dec. 28th, there have been 71 donors so far, here is the link: http://kaiya.chipin.com/kaiya-the-blind-and-deaf-chow

I truly hope they get the financial support they need.
It such a tough time of year for everyone. There seem to be more dogs and less and less rescues.
Frustrating.

Kaiya has taken a bad turn. She is experiencing seizures and is currently on valium for that and stomach problems. The vet said it is affecting her quality of life. it doesn't look good.

I`m so sorry to hear that.
There`s every chance that this is why she was dumped off by her miserable, piece of crap, owers in the first place.

At least in her final days she will be loved, cared for and not abandoned like old shoes, and in the end, that is what is important.
Bless those people who opened their hearts to her.

Is there a reason they didn't give her phenobarbital for the seizures? I have a blind deaf senior foster who started having seizures. I thought for sure we were going to have to let him go. The vet prescribed him the phenobarbital back in February and he has only had one small seizure since. He also takes meds for anxiety, pain, and arthrits. I worried about his quality of life but he keeps on truckin so we are right there with him.

I will keep her in my thoughts. Hopefully she can turn this around.

I was going to ask that as well ( re the pheno or bromide), but decided not to because I thought it was a mistype.
I don't know that valium is ever used for seizures either.

I'm getting the information second hand so the valium might not be correct. I will let the rescue know about the phenobarbitol. Yeah, Merlin, the rescue group and I said the same thing about the owners. Didn't want to pay the vet bill. There aren't words strong enough for how I feel about this.

I received the sad news that due to continuing seizures Kaiya went to the Rainbow Bridge this morning. She was suffering so much and her seizures just were not getting any better, so it was with the permission of the fosters and the recommendation of the vet, that they let her go peacefully. RIP sweet Kaiya.

At least in her final days she came to understand that not all humans are crap.
|She was loved, cared for to the very end, and her memory will be held in the hearts of many.
