Auddymay -- he is the blonde little guy up a little bit in my post. He is about a year, year and a half and is now in a rescue from a shelter. Take a look....

OMG Patti, what a doll! I've got my fingers crossed [:D] and am dying to hear the details! :D :D :D

Oh, I'm a head sniffer. Never thought about the feet until you all mentioned it -- does it matter what they've been standing in :?:

Re: "I like to sniff the top of Sophie's head, smells like corn chips. ...MMMMMM corn chips...."

MMMMMM... the odor of microbes, sweat and yeasts

Excerpt:

"On the paw pads, natural micro-organisms living in the surface layers contribute to the typical odor of dog paw pads, which is a little like the odor of Cheese puff snacks! This odor is much more noticeable on dogs with moist paw pads than on those with dry pads"

Kiwani, are you implying that Sophie's hygiene is less than squeaky clean? I am offended. I keep that 2"x2" area unwashed for a reason. :D

Oh, congrats on the "possible" baby boy!!! He's gorgeous. I'm debating getting a 3rd chowkid, also a cream boy. However, I'm not getting a lot of support at home. Wish me luck on that one!

As for the terrific smell, I've always thought that Ming smelled like popcorn...

Re: "Kiwani, are you implying that Sophie's hygiene is less than squeaky clean?"

Several times on this site, I've read something to the effect that Chows are so mystical, they produce an incense scent. I've mentioned the fungus aspect before, and now I've mentioned it again

If you've ever ridden in a car with a Chow wet from swimming, you'll know they also have a less mystical doggy odor

Tell me about it! Millie smells like bad shrimp from all her sloshing around in the lake or the sound. Nothing mystical about her

Congratulations on the new chowling mrstu. Sometimes their little faces just reach out & grab you huh! Milo did that to me

I was tongue-in-cheek, I knew which Chow you meant- I was the one who fixed the tag in your first photo. I got a giggle, thinking to myself what is the exact opposite of a black female. He is a good looking boy. Something different (but not too) will be nice for you.

I don't think I will ever have the experience of riding in a car with a chow wet from swimming - M & M will not get their precious paws wet let alone have a swim!

Boy howdy, don't I know it. Sorry to say I detect the subtle whiff of sewer pipe from my little wet lamb, no matter how clean she may be.

Mrstu, good luck on the possible adoption. All the possibilities that have been posted are very cute...as are most chows, and dogs, and animals :). It sound like which ever dog you end up with, they will have a wonderful chow parent!

As for the conversation on smelling dogs, I think I will just leave that one alone :?

Not sure if you all have seen this but it brought a tear to my eye.

I adopted your dog today.
The one you left at the pound.
The one you had for ten years
and no longer wanted around.

I adopted your dog today.
Do you know he's lost weight?
Do you know he's scared and depressed
and has lost all faith?

I adopted your dog today.
He had fleas and a cold,
but don't worry --
You've unburdened your load.

I adopted your dog today.
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies
or was there no reason he couldn't stay?

I adopted your dog today.
He doesn't play or eat much.
He's very depressed,
but he will learn again to trust.

I adopted your dog today
and here he will stay.
He's found his forever home
and a warm bed to lay.

I adopted your dog today
and I will give him all that he could need.
Patience, love, security, and understanding.
Hopefully, he will forget your selfish deed.

Thanks Auddymay -- I really want all of them -- I wish I could take each one that I have seen and give them a warm and loving home. My husband suggested that perhaps I do not look for a black female, I kept opening pictures and expecting to see Mrs.tu's face and didnt -- I had not been able to stop crying everytime I did that. My husband suggested I find one that was different and distinct on his or her own.

Deb, I talked to the rescue -- it will be two weeks at least till I can get him -- pending the successful reference check --he needs to be neutered and have entropion surgery on his left eye. I did talk to his rescue mom at length about him today. She says he is a very good boy who got a bath today and did a good job with it. Will keep you posted and we will have to get with you and Gilbert and Sullivan when he arrives.

Adopting a dog can be as tough or tougher than adopting a human, but that's probably a good thing.

I can't wait to meet him, and I think getting something different is a good thing.

Ok -- I admit -- I missed where you found him though -- I looked back through this thread, but I'm a little out of it.
