I bath chow out doors in the summer , i think he prefers it to a tub bath . in the tub he wants to climb out and shake water and soap over everything , out side if he escapes he can go under the dusty and dry deck in to the dirt and dig, a very nice place for a wet chow, !
i do not see any prblem with outdoors bathing

'Cause of the few hot days we've had here, the small plastic kiddy pools are sold out.
I filled two large planters with water the previous day. I shampooed Mikki in my bath tub. That done, I wrapped her in a huge towel and we went out in the backyard. I used a plastic bowl and poured the now warm water over her to get the soap out. Lots of shaking going on. I used the hair dryer and within 15 minutes the fur was dry.
I didn't feel comfortable using the garden hose, the water is very cold here.

I bath Tess and Tacia outside in the summer (85 degrees or higher). It is just soooooo much easier then trying to get them in the tub. Everyone knows how chow fur is often water repellent, but you should try to bath a collie. Tacia's fur does not have the thickness of Tess's, but it dries before I can get the shampoo on it. At least outside, I can use a hose with a little more pressure than what I can get with a bucket of water in the bathtub.

Janet, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

My advice - go fast! Even if it is hot outside, they will still shiver if the hose water is cold. They might dry faster being outside in the hot weather. But the bathing part, be ready to see their teeth chatter. So go fast, have plenty of towels ready, put cotton in their ears, get ready to be shaken with water and everything will be fine.

But, if you have any of those self-service doggie wash stations in your area, I'd recommend you go there. Along with the basics of shampoo, towels, etc, they have the high powered cool dryers so it's faster to dry the undercoat.

Have fun!

I have more of a question than a reply: when I bathe my Chowz outside it's hard to get them both dry before they go dig & roll in the dirt :? I wouldn't mind it so much if my girl was shaggy like my boy but since she's hairy like a reg. chow how can I get her coat semidry if not completely dry b4 she runs off?{she hates the noise of the blow dryer} :(

I usually try to wash her first so that I have more time to spend drying her since he's usually dry by the time I finsh rinsing off the soap 8)but I wish it could be as easy as it was when they were younger & I could attach them to the porch railing to wash & dry them{now they barely want to feel the water warm or not}unless its really really hott than they will welcome a cool shot from the hose...

CAN SOMEBODY PLZ HELP ME OUT HERE?!

Bull Princess, first of all, you have two very beautiful chowdren.

I bath my two outside in the summer...both with long hair (chow and rough collie). Tess (chow) loves to roll in the grass when she's wet and causes the same problem...a big mud puppy right after getting a bath. I usually dry her with a towel as much as I can, then put her on our front porch where she can be out in the heat and the sun, but all concrete so she stays clean until she's dry. Do you have anywhere you could tether or barricade her where it is only concrete at least until she dries some?
