Grooming and training

Post by damagicman98 »

I recently purchased a Chow Chow Puppy (50 days old).He is my very first dog and my patience is runnning very low. I understand Chow chows are not very obidient, but Ace is giving me a hard time. First of all, I would need your help about giving him a bath? do I have to wait any longer? I heard I have to wait 2 months to 3 months before bathing him for the first time. He's finally pissing on a newspaper, but I'm having some serious problem making him do poooh in a newspaper and I dont want to leave in the balcony.
Any ideas?
thanks
Chris

When Butters was young I had to take him outside and play with him for a while before he would do poo. It would take up to 30 minutes sometimes.

As for the bathing I don't know about the waiting period. That is something I have never heard of and I can't remember when we gave Butters his first bath. I think he was around 4 months.

I know it takes a lot of patience and it will only get harder for a while. Butters is three and he still will only come when called about half the time. Hang in There!!!!

I gave my first bath to my chowling when she was 2.5 months. didn't seem to be a problem at all. Her fur is still nice a fluffy and she smells a whole lot better. As for the peeing and pooing. Have you tried those wee wee pads? Supposedly they're better than newspaper. Try to get a toy or something with her scent on it, and put it on the newspaper or pad that she needs to go on, she'll feel more comfortable there. Reward her everytime she does it, and shell get the hang of it. Better yet, take her outside and reward her everytime.

popoki112 - awwwww, is that your baby?? how CUTE!!!

Anyways, I think Sid was only 2 or 3 months old because I could pick him up and hold him under the shower and bath him like you would a baby in the shower. hahahahaha...

Sid was potty trained EARLY, like within a week.

I picked up his water bowl every night at 7pm. I took him out one last time at 8pm, then he stayed with me until the morning, 6am rolled around and he was licking my ear and grunting he had to go so bad but he helled it all night right from the beginning. :)

I've never heard of a wait period before bathing. Jaz was probably 2 - 2 1/2 months for her first bath. She had rolled in some black mud at the lake. I washed it off in the lake, but she smelled so bad I had to give her a bath when I got home. From then on she hated baths. So be prepared to fight every time you want to bathe her.

As for potty training, there was only 1 spot Jaz would go in the apartment. I put a scrap piece of carpet over that spot and did some of what the others have said. Only took a few days for her to get it, that she goes outside to do her business.

It's really a matter of training yourself to let the puppy out certain times. Once they have the routine down, there won't be any problems.

I bathed my puppies the day after we got them from the shelter at approx 8 weeks, they were filthy.
How long have you had the puppy? Can't expect him to know what the newspaper is for right away,I'm sure you weren't born potty trained either
Lots of praise when he accidentally goes on the paper will get the message across eventually.
