Precious is sick and at the vet

I thought I would ask for extra prayers and special thoughts for Precious today. She is not feeling well and is at the vet today. She was throwing up this morning. Her appetite has not been so great the last week. I don't know if this is a complication from her Cushings disease or old doggie stuff, or something else. I'll let you all know something when I know.

missi, we will keep precious in our thoughts and say a prayer for a speedy recovery. hang in there. i know its the hardest thing when our kids are sick. give her a big hug from us.

Hi - just spoke with Dr. Amy. A couple things we are taking care of. First, we believe she may be over suppressed from her Cushings. (meaning she is now not producing enough cortisol.) We definitely do not want her in Addison's crisis, so she will have IV and steriods today. Also her tummy is gas-y, which is probably also contributing to her vomitting and discomfort.

She will stay at the vet the remainder of the day. I will get to bring her home tonight, but, will take her back first thing in the morning for more care and to see the results of her ACTH test. (that is when they check to see where her cortisol levels are. very important numbers for a cushings dog.)

OH, my Missi I know everything will go well. You know I will have her in my thoughts she is such a wonder pup. So very sweet.

You are a good Chowmum to Precious. She sounds like both you and the vet are on top of things. We will all hope this is a minor set-back, and pray for her speedy recovery.

Precious is home!!! I will start out by saying, she is feeling much better than she did this morning, but, (and isn't there always a but?) she isn't 100% yet and that will take some time. They did blood work, lab work and an xray to be sure all was ok with her. The ACTH test will be in tomorrow (that's when they check her cortisol levels)

After about an hour or so of IV and steriods, Dr. Amy said Precious started feeling much better. They heard her start barking again - like, "Hey! Somebody! I'm back here! Pay attention to me!!!" A little later, she pulled out her catheter and then proceeded to demolish her blanket bedding she was laying on in ICU. So, yeah, back to her fisty, "I don't want to be at the vet" self. That's good. Dr. Amy said, "We are always glad to see that and hear them barking. Let's us know they are feeling better."

We believe that she was over suppressed on her Trilostane for her Cushings. Although we monitor this medicine religiously (it's basically doggie chemo of sorts), this unfortunately does happen. So, we will wait for the results of her ACTH test to come in tomorrow morning and we'll see if she is in Addison's crisis or not. That will give us more direction for the weeks to come.

Tonight, I am just happy that she is home with us. And MANY MANY MANY THANKS to such an amazingly supportive and kind hearted group of people you all are! What would I do without you?!!!

Please continue to pray for us tonight and the days to come. I wish for my girl a healthy life while she is with us and I only want what is best for her.

Oh Missi, I'm so sorry to hear that Precious isn't feeling well. I hope she gets better really soon. I was relieved to read that she's better now that she's home with you.

Is Naomi being supportive or does she want to play with Precious non-stop? Big, big hugs to you and the gang.
