Chow choking on saliva?
My 1 year old Chow, Mumu, pants and drools a lot, especially after exercise. I think this is pretty normal, considering that we live in Alabama and it is August... He is an open face, rough coat Chow. The only thing that bothers me is that often when he is panting, he will cough or choke on his own saliva. Sometimes he will even gag and seem to throw it up. Does anyone else's Chow do this?
Mumu has been declared healthy by his vet and is heartworm negative... He is an intact male but is scheduled to be neutered on the 28th.
I have had him one month and he is my first Chow!

Hi laikaskye, it’s not uncommon for Chows like Mumu to choke or gag on saliva, especially with heavy panting in hot weather, and his open face might make him more prone to this. Since he’s been cleared by the vet, it’s likely just his breed traits at play,build now gg but keep an eye on him and maybe mention it at his neutering appointment just to be safe!
