Oh the horror

Annie has the WORST breath ever . I've tried the Nutro treats that are supposed to help that...actually they are tarter control...really, it's horrible and when she licks the smell stays until I change (if she licks my clothes...which oddly is often), or wash that spot... what do I do? Is this just part of having an older dog? Or is there something that I can give her?

I read your post and wish I could help but due to my allergies when I was a kid, I completely lost my sense of smell so I have no idea when anything stinks.

I've seen dental cleanings being offered at my vet, have you researched that at all? I wonder if she could have a cavity or something weird like that. I know when my sister had one, she said nothing helped (gum, breathe mints, etc). So honestly, I'm of no help, sorry! I hope someone can answer better after they all get home from work!

The vet has given her a complete checkup and said everythign in her mouth looked great.

I don't have any idea. Bear's breath is kinda yucky, but not un"bear"able. I know they sell all kinds of things at Petsmart for doggie breath...have you looked there? I took a quick look around the internet and found lots of info out there and some of it is scary. The really foul smell could mean something really serious. Have you checked to see if Annie might have a broken tooth? Any sores in her mouth? Does she have digestive problems?

The vet hasn't found anything, when he looked at her teeth he said they were fine. When I get home I'll look at her mouth again and see if I can find anything. I was surprised he said her teeth looked healthy since she'd been on the streets for so long. I have looked at Petsmart, but thought I'd ask on here if anyone had any recommendations. Thanks!

One of Jade's nick names was stinky butt breath. We also said if we could figure out how to bottle it we could sell it to the military and they could use it against terrorist. I really miss that smell. The last year it got really bad and in September we had to set her free due to kidney failure. Since we lost Jade i have been told by a couple of people that one sign for kidney failure is bad breath. Wish someone would have pointed that out to us last month Just an FYI. I am not saying that is why she has bad breath, just that it is something to look at to rule out. Good Luck.

You can buy chlorophyl pills or chlorophyl liquid in a grocery store or health food store and put just a little bit in their food. It's great and gets rid of bad breath naturally.

It's also good for their digestion.

Haley too. I considered chlorophyll or whatever drops you put in their water but it's just smell and I've grown to love her special smell. Am I crazy?

I was wondering the same thing about Ozzy...I just got on here to do some research and saw this post. Ozzy is about 14 months old and has the nastiest fish smelling breath. I read on the internet that it could be from eating the cats food! I dont think it could be his teeth he is too young...He was just at the vet and he didnt say anything about his teeth. I may take him some where else I dont think they do a very good job at his current vet office.
