Chow chow has become aggressive towards other female dog, after 3 years of nothing

Post by Jharris866 »

Our chow chow (3 year old spayed female) has now become aggressive with our 11 tense old cocker Spaniel mix (also a spayed female).

Our chow chow has gone after her 5 times in the last 3 weeks. I need help figuring out what to do!

It's concerning to hear about the aggression between your Chow Chow and Cocker Spaniel mix. Here are some steps you can take to address this situation:

Separation: Firstly, ensure that you keep the two dogs separated to prevent any further incidents and to ensure the safety of both animals.

Consult a Professional: Contact a professional dog trainer or behaviorist who has experience dealing with dog aggression. They can assess the situation in person and provide tailored advice and strategies to help manage and address the aggression.

Medical Check-Up: Sometimes aggression in dogs can be triggered by underlying medical issues. It's a good idea to have both dogs checked by a veterinarian to rule out any potential health problems that could be contributing to the aggression.

Training and Socialization: Work on training both dogs individually to improve their obedience and behavior. Positive reinforcement techniques can be effective in teaching them to coexist peacefully.

Identify Triggers: Try to identify what triggers the aggression in your Chow Chow and work on minimizing exposure to those triggers. This could involve managing their environment or avoiding situations that lead to confrontations.

Supervision: When the dogs are together, always supervise their interactions closely. Be prepared to intervene immediately if any signs of aggression arise.

Patience and Consistency: Dealing with dog aggression can be challenging and may take time to resolve. Stay patient and consistent with your training efforts, and don't hesitate to seek professional help if needed.

Remember, safety should always be the top priority, so take precautions to prevent any further incidents while you work on addressing the aggression.
