Dandelion (embedded collar) update

Post by bananananny »

To all of you who have followed Dandelion's story, I just wanted to let you know that she had to have another surgery yesterday. In case you don't remember, she is the Chow/Golden mix from NY with the embedded collar.
Image
Because of the extreme trauma to her neck, the surgery from March 2007 failed so this time they did a laryngofissure to try to help her laryngeal paralysis. She was having cyanotic episodes more frequently so she really needed help. I was afraid that she would not respond well to another surgery with all the scar tissue that she already has but we are hopeful. She has to stay one more night with the vet (VCA-Gaithersburg, MD-Dr. Saylor) b/c they want to keep an eye on her wound since it its still draining a lot. The vet said it looks like someone hit her with a brick. I saw her after surgery yesterday and she looked very scared and very bloody and I cried the whole way home(over an hour). I sure hate to leave her but I have to trust the vet. To close, I will add a happier pic of her so you can see what she will again look like.

Knowing she was saved and has someone who loves her and is taking care of her now still doesn't make looking at the original picture of her any easier. Poor thing. We will keep her in our thoughts. :(

I cringe every time I see that first 'Lumpy' photo as well. She really does look like a dandelion in her outfit in the second shot. Best of luck, sweet Dandelion!

Dandelion came home today!!!!! They kept her an extra night to keep an eye on her incision. She is very uncomfortable and exhausted but her breathing is MUCH improved and she is still swollen so it will continue to get better. I think this surgery will work since it is a different method altogether. She is bright and alert and is not very happy with me but she's glad to be home I think. Thank you all for you thoughts and prayers. We greatly appreciate it!!!!

That original picture of Dandelion absolutely makes me cringe and feel so sad.

There can be no better news than she is getting better, healing and being loved.

I am so happy to hear how she is getting better - please keep us updated.

This is just the greatest end to such a sad story.

Chutters and Mia give big purple kisses to Dandelion. And a big hug from me.
