Seems their hair is still getting thicker and in Chey's case, longer and longer!Luckily they don't mind the grooming,I brush them every other day.
Don't think their coats are as thick as the ones one some of the other chows, might be because it's never very cold here?It can drop to 20 at night but it might easily be 65 the next afternoon!

They've grown to be so beautiful, Desi. I must ask... why do you put hay down? Just wondering. Is it so their paws don't get too muddy? Or is it to protect your garden plants?

The fenced in part of the yard is behind the house .The builder cleaned the undergrowth behind all houses, luckily he left the trees. We tried to grow grass there.Even watering every other day didn' help.In summer there is no sun there, way too many trees. We tried to seed first, but of course with the girls running around it never took. The we tried sod, didn't take either, just not enough light under those trees.
The poodles refuse to walk on wet dirt, and after a good rain it gets very slippery (I don't need snow to fall on my @$$)
So we just get clean hay every two months or so.The Chows will not go potty on the hay, they go as close to the fence as possible.
There are no plants in that area, that way I don't have to worry about them getting in to anything.

Thanks, Desi. I was just curious. I think I saw Martha Stewart putting hay down for the winter at her first ranch to help her plants endure the elements of the season. I wasn't sure if it was something you do to help the chow paws too. I must admit. I saw all that hay and envisioned if I had that in my backyard, the boys would have moved it all into our living room before noon each day!

Regarding the grass, have you tried something like artificial grass. I know at the pet camps here and the pet resorts, some use a type of artificial grass that is really good. I'm not sure if this is the actual company some of them use, but it is pretty popular here in Northern California. http://www.heavenlygreens.com/applicati ... hetic+lawn

Thank God for hardwood floors and swiffers, lol
By the time the girls walk up the stairs most of the hay (or leaves,or mud) has fallen off their feet, but my floors are never clean very long.
That artificial stuff looks nice, but how would that work when they do their bussines on it?
Doesn't really matter what it looks like in the back, nobody can really see it unles the come on my property.
