*Censored Word* Glands?

Post by Theo »

We have noticed that we can "smell" Titus' excitement when he's ready to go for a walk or a ride in the car. And boy does it smell.

We took him to the vets to get his nails clipped, and the Vet Tech said he was not being very cooperative....When she brought him back to us she had a stain on her pants and said "Titus got her".

I only have Teddy and a poodle (that I grew up with) to compare this to, and I don't remember that smell from either dog.
Has anyone else experienced this with their chow?

The other night annie knocked over the baby gate and when I tried to get it un-stuck, I dropped it and her and buddha both did whatever it is that causes that smell. It happens when they are scared, probably why he did it when he was at the vets getting clipped. A lot of other breeds do this too, it's not just Chows.

It happens every few weeks. Most big dogs do it on their own while pottying. They can also express them during especially or stressful situations. And yes, it smells absolutely awful. (I'm a groomer). I think Carter might need his done, he was just scooting his butt on the ice earlier.

Geez Jonathon,that was rude. Truth be told the males of the human species are the ones with sphincter control problems...prehaps you are projecting? In any case, quit implying the fine women on this site do odious things, or we will think you have a fixation...love to Jonathon!

Lily dowsed her groomer once. I have had dogs and other animals my entire life, and never had such issues until I got a Chow. The first time someone posted about *Censored Word* gland issues, I thought they must be joking. Then I got a quick lesson...lol. Oddly, with Chows, they either become impacted, or they use it like a Chowy PePe LePew.

Oh Jonathon, thank you, thank you for pointing out my short coming! You've turned my life around! That was humorous sarcasm. And I did not say a rude word about you. What you used there, my friend, (again, HS) is passive aggressiveness; when you use joking in an unkind way toward someone you don't particularly like. Funny? perhaps to you...to the object of your joking? Not so much.

:D kinda like men sweat and women "perspire"?? Well, Shiloh let the vet have a dose of the *Censored Word* gland discharge a couple of years ago when she was being checked for an infection...Nahkohe will disperse if he's awakened from a snooze by the doorbell.

The little French Princess is the worst /:) !
When you leave her alone in the car for a few minutes (or if she doesn't ride where she deserves to be :roll: ), you got it 90% of the time :-x .
When you have guest having dinner at home too, she loooves to do it. "Is your chow smelling like rotten fish?? :shock: ".
Etc, etc... I love it :-x :-x :-x ...
Titus is definitly NOT the only one, believe me... =;

Oh my gosh!!! I hate you people; now I can smell it from Emma every so often! You're a jinx!! I've started calling her my little "Tuna butt". I thought it was from her getting her under-fur in her pee every so often, but now I'm rethinking that. Ewwww!!! :D
