Bear Statue,Oklahoma-non chow
Icy fangs
A statue of a bear is covered in ice in Spencer, Okla., Monday. A winter storm coated much of Oklahoma in ice, knocking out power to more than 400,000 homes and businesses, disrupting flight operations and leading to traffic accidents that killed 12 people. (Associated Press)
Reminds me of my first chow, she'd have icycles during walks.
I hope everyone is o.k. in Oklahoma, lots of people without heat,
Karin

Shandi has been looking alittle like that and so have I. Alot of my friends and family are without power. My son is using our generator with an open invite to come back home is need be. He is only a few blocks away. Most of the people at work don't have power at homeWe had another ice storm a few years ago that left some folks without power almost a month. But that worked out because alot of us got generators then. Hopefully this one isn't as bad. Lots of ice and damage. I always feel sorry for the trees. We lose so many this way. We have shelters and stores that are allowing folks to warm up. Most people pull together in these small towns here. OKC even acts more like a small town most of the time.

I'm sorry to hear that you are in one of those bad areas. I hope they are able to repair everything and get heat back up and running asap. I think I heard that AEP (I'm sorry but I'm not calling them Indiana Michigan Power, they will always be AEP to me) sent some of their people to some southern states to try and help repair. Along with a few other states who did the same thing. We have been lucky and haven't had ice bad enough to knock power out (knock on wood).

Thank you for your thoughts. We have had lots of help from other states I hear too. Most the people I talk to say it is not too bad, kinda like camping but they don't have small kids. That can make it hard. I work at my vets and we have boarded lots of dogs & kitties the past week due to power outages. So far the vets and my house are still with power. Never know though. Our power company is pretty good at getting power restored thanks to lots of experience with tornadoes knocking everything out often. The cold is bad though for dogs without fur. Luckily the chows seem to love it. Mine dogs are indoor but they sure like getting out in the muck and cold to play. It's us humans that freeze our fannies off. Everyone take care this winter, always a good idea to have a generator even if you don't think you will ever need it.

Mostly old and young is what we have been taking in at the vets. She doesn't charge very much so that helps folks alot. One of the few vets I know who is more concerned with the animals than the amount of money she makes. Alot of people here in our town have taken their pets in the house. Thank goodness. The ones without power are getting help. At least most the ones I have come across. The deaths here have mostly been car accidents , people don't slow down enough.

That's funny, I was born not far from Spencer and can't recall where that statue would be. Maybe it's a school mascot.
I called my sister yesterday and she has power; but my niece has run out of propane, so I'm not sure where or how she's keeping warm. My sister said they lost some trees, but thankfully the ice isn't staying around that much out in the boonies where she lives.
This is really crazy weather for Oklahoma so early in the winter. I hope it doesn't mean it's going to get worse for January and February.
