Eye goop / discharge questions

Post by Clockman »

Ok, Emma's 3 now and I just took her to the groomer's on Tuesday. Since then, the "eye boogers" she normally gets seem more pronounced. They're not streaming down her face, but the are bigger and the color is a tannish / puss color. She's not in any apparent discomfort from them, but I don't know if I'm overreacting to them or not.

Any ideas if it might be allergy season for Chows?

The other thing I noticed today is that both lower lids are drooping at the edges. Sometimes she does this , but today it's very pronounced and the tissue exposed is very pink.

Sounds like vet time...Nahkohe has weepy/discharge problems and it's not entropian. His vet prescribed an eye drop med that usually helps contain the problem. The discharge will stain the areas around his eyes. He doesn't scratch his eyes or seems uncomforatable. Maybe the vet can prescribe drops to help the problem.

It does sound like allergies but I'm sure the vet could give you some eye onitment to ease any discomfort.
Both Chyna & Kai have allergies and get runny eyes.

Here are a couple pics of her eyes yesterday. As you can see, her lower lids are very saggy, but are not normally, unless she's tired. So, we have ectropian eyelids, but look at how pink they are. I'm thinking she may have doggie conjunctivitis. I bought un-preserved saline to flush her eyes until the vet opens Monday. Today, the whites of her eyes are pink too.

I would call the groomer too and ask if they use anything in the eyes to eliminate irritation during shampooing?? This might cause a reaction or infection if another dog had conjunctivitis or if your dog is just sensitive to it ..My groomer did this once and Nikki had tearing eyes for days but she thought it was a hair in the eye instead..?? Mention to the vet you had your dog to the groomer..

Her eyes do look inflamed.I would take her to the vet and I'm sure some ointment will clear that up in no time!
