Well, I called a vet since my vet wasn't in. They said he could have injured his leg or it could be Lyme's Disease. But my dad still refuses to take Bear in! He still has it in his mind that Bear's not going to live much longer....oh please! I told my dad right out what I did and what I wanted to do...

Hopping
Hi- My Chow Bear started hopping around yesterday afternoon. When he stops to stand, only his toes on the hind left foot touch the ground. There is nothing in his paw and I rubbed his leg last night. I could feel no broken bones, but the rub down didn't help. My dad is refusing to do anything, (Just...

Hi everyone- Sorry about not replying....I've been busy lately between getting my 4-H projects done and everything else. Bear seems to be getting a little better...his pockets are reducing, not sure if that is good or not. We bought a brush for him and Homer.....one side is like our hairbrushes for ...

Lou- Thanks for the thyroid suggestion. It helped me remember that one of the pills Bear is on is for his thyroid. The other I still can't remember.....all I know is they are for his skin disease. I thank you for taking the info to your vet......it can help me with my parents. I'm really close to ha...

what are the pills for? Are they just vitamin supplements? Lou- They are for his seborrhea.....not exactly sure what they are supposed to do....I think it's to help stop the seborrhea from getting worse, but I'm not sure. It brought some of his hair back after we uped the dosage, but we lowered it ...

btriley- That is sad about your Chow. I've always hated losing a dog. Everyone else- I'll try talking to my mom tonight, again. I tried over the weekend, and all my parents did was talk about the memories with Bear...and past pets. Lou- what else can we give Bear his pills with? He's picky in the fi...

Thanks for the reply. Trust me, I want to take Bear to the vet. My problem is my parents. They won't take him in. It's so stupid..... I'd take him myself, but I'm only 14. Our vet is too far away to walk, and there isn't any vets that make house calls. I'm trying to come up with something, but it's ...

Hi everyone, I'm back! Well, Bear's health seems to be falling downhill. I almost got my mom to make an appointment, but, alas, she's sided with my dad.....which is letting him have a good rest of his life, which they think won't even make it to his 9th birthday! I'm so angry at my parents! I want t...

Hi again Lou- My mom and I want to take Bear to the vet. However, we can't for 2-3 weeks as my mom is on the wrong shift and I'm gone. Just hopefully nothing goes seriously wrong. We don't use pesticide on our grass. The grass Bear likes is a long blade, kind of like bluegrass, I think. Bear eats Me...

Lou- My guess is that my parents and I thought that it was cancer because Kali had cancer and had spots like Bear. How can I tell if Bear is shedding? I wish I could put a picture on here showing how much of his hair is gone. He does roam around our backyard, then again he eats grass. Actually, we d...

Christine- Thanks for your reply. I was reading some of the other posts on here last night.....it sounded like Starkey was a great Chow. Our vet is 25 minutes away, but works certain days and times at that clinic as she works at another one 30 minutes away, which makes it imposible to make an appoin...

Ear Infections
My Bear used to get bad ear infections. He went on the ointment too and had the same thing happen as you, Karen. Then, we brought a Norwegian Elk Hound into our family. Bear gave up most of his titles, (like going through the door first, being he was the older and supreme dog), but they became best ...

Denver Pit bulls
Omg, that is sooooo sad! It's inhumane and unright. I mean, pit bulls do have strikes against them, (I think they are cute), that doesn't give Denver the right to wipe them out of the city. It's so wrong! If anyone wanted to take my Bear, (the Chow), or Homer, (my Norwegian Elk Hound), away from me,...

I think my Chow has cancer
Hi, I need some help. Recently, my mom and I noticed that our chow, Bear, didn't look quite right. Tonight, we gave him a through exam. He has a huge pus-like pocket on his right elbow, smaller pockets on his tail and back, small red spots between his toes on both front feet, and hair missing on his...

We shaved our Chow when he was younger....he loved it! I would've too.....a thick black coat in Wisconsin during the late 90's wasn't a good thing. He never got sunburned....his favorite thing was to hide under the deck or shade and be lazy. Now we don't shave him because he has severia (high form o...
