How awful...I recently lost our lab mix of 13 years. It is a terrible thing to lose a friend...but under such tragic circumstances! I had read that chows don't tolerate anesthesia and tranquilizers as well as other breeds. I am so sorry.

Congratulations on the family member. My guess would be shepherd...what a handsome dog. The story sounds very familiar...our chow was found wandering in a parking lot, hungry, lame, and a mess. He had been homeless about a month. He is pure chow but very affectionate yet strong willed. They're great...

How I wish we could take Loki off his lead! We live in a quiet area, no cars, trees in the rear...but he will take off after deer. We thought we could trust him, but he jumped across a creek bed to chase the deer. I didn't know that a chow could jump that far! We finally found him in a nearby neighb...

electric fences

Has anyone had experience with chows and electric fences? We are unable to install a traditional fence because of homeowner restrictions. It worked for our lab but chows (as everyone here knows) do not conform! Thanks.

I just want to thank everyone for their words of encouragement and suggestions. You get so attached to these "furkids" that I don't know if I can do it again.[/b]

I am devastated. This morning we had to put down our lab mix. We had her 13 years and she was the most gentle dog on the planet. As sad as that event was, we are also trying to cope with her "pal" left behind..a purebred chow we rescued about two years ago. They did everything together...r...

We came to be "chow" people thanks to our son who found a stray, homeless chow. He was unable to keep it because of his job responsibilities. I was actually frightened for his safety when he called and told us he had taken it to his apartment. I, too, believed the chow horror stories. Well...

The cat that our chow has a problem with is not a new member of the "pack". Actually, when we first acquired the Chow, he had a problem with both of our cats but we were able to socialize him with the older cat with a great deal of patience...but, for some reason, he "flips out" ...

He is sweet, affectionate, housebroken and is a great companion to our 13 year old lab mix, also a rescue...here's the problem...he has a major problem with our calico cat. I know he woul...
