Re: Advice Needed!!!
How horrible! And cudos to you for standing your ground and following through on this =D= . Those poor puppies. I hope you can catch him on camera, I wouldn't be afraid, you're not doing anything illegal by filming. But I am also not afraid to carry a gun to protect myself from people. We have a tel...

Re: Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
Well it's been 17 days since surgery and Buddha is doing very well. His limp sometimes is not noticeable at all. He's not licking his leg too much, just now and then. He is eating much better, and drinking plently. He is getting playful, too playful! He thinks he's really to go for long walks in the...

Re: I don't know where else to go...(non-chow)
I feel for you, Jessy and want to touch on something others haven't mentioned, and they may not agree with me, but that's okay. I grew up in a VERY disfunctional family, I won't even go into the dramatic details. I'm now 33, been married for 12 years despite everyone's doubts about me. When parent's...

Re: Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
Buddha got his stitches out yesterday, and is officially doggie cone free! \:D/ We are all so happy about it! When we went into the vet, they said this must be Buddha! A big guy came to take Buddha away, he growled a little and backed away, I told him it was okay, to go with him. So off he went, tai...

Re: Weather stories
All of my Chows have hated to get their feet wet. Buddha will go around the puddles, and doesn't like to go out in the rain at all. He loves the snow, that's how he torn his ACL was playing in the snow! He loves windy days, sunny days, cloudy days, just no rain. If he's already outside he never bark...

Re: Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
Sirchow-Brambles pics remind me so much of Buddha as a puppy, well he still is a puppy to me. I glad to be of any help I can, or just support, it's so hard to watch them suffer when they don't understand what's going on.

Poor Bramble! I feel for you both! Buddha just had surgery for the same thing, just one leg fortunatly. He gets his stiches out Monday. I posted a picture of his leg; it's in this section the heading is Torn ACL surgery...scared silly. It's been trying, this is his 3rd surgery on his knee. His first...

Re: call for stories
Buddha used to always run away from the "monster". Now he is more cautiously curious. He will go sniff and check it out just a little before I turn it on, then he backs off and watches. He will sometimes follow me around like he wants to go to it when it's running, but chickens out. As soo...

Re: Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
Buddha is feeling better! He is getting around pretty good and he is back to his regular self. He will easily take the pain and anxiety medication in cheese, but he spits the antibiotic out at me! (little brat) So, now, he gets sausage with the meds stuffed inside, so far so good, but I won't be sur...

Re: Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
kiwani- We tried to wrap his lower leg on Monday night...he wouldn't hear of it. He's a super strong little guy! He got out of the cone twice while we were trying to do it, and we just couldn't keep him still, he put up such a fight. We decided at that point we may be causing him more stress than he...

Re: Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
Here are some pictures of Buddha, post surgery. He is doing well, it's really hard to keep him still, and he keeps rubbing the cone against the leg, so it's irritating the lower portion of the leg. In one picture he's licking the cone, like there is something tasty in there, and he also tried to kis...

Re: Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
Well, Buddha's surgery was a success, so they say. But oh the pain he was in when I first picked him up from the vet! I've been sick all weekend and today worrying over him. We seem to have his pain under control now, but he still hobbles around on 3 legs, occassionally using the one that had the su...

Re: New Puppy... Not coming
I'm so sorry you won't be getting your bundle of furry joy when expected. But on a bright note, sounds like you at least have found a breeder that cares and is responsible. Sometimes things get delaye for a reason. I'm sure when you do get your new puppy it will be worth the wait.

Re: Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
Thanks for all the info, I appreciate it. Yesterday my hubby did build a big ramp to help in getting him down the steps so it will be easier to get him in and outside safely. So we spent a little time last night trying to get him used to it...he is one of those "change is bad" type of Chow...

Torn ACL Surgery...scared silly
Hi All! Buddha is have surgery for a torn ACL on Friday the 13th. I'm not very superstitious, but I am really nervous about this surgery. He had a surgery to prevent a luxating patella problem on this same knee (different vet) about a year ago. The vet tech said he growled at her...he NEVER growls.....

Re: Injured playing in snow, need help!
Red Dragon, you were right. We went to a specialist yesterday, and Buddha has a torn ACL. I was given an estimate of $1700 for the surgery. How does that figure sound to all of you? It includes overnight hospitalization.

Welcome! I am relatively new here too, and also wish I had found this years ago! I also had a Sheba... Lady Sheba Nicole, she is now in Chow heaven, she was 14 and lived 1/2 of her life with Cushings Disease, but it was well treated with meds. I have found this site to be SO helpful, it's hard for s...

I have to agree with vinegar! My husband has been to way too many carpet cleaning training programs. Vinegar is safe, and eco-friendly! However, I know how expensive oriental area rugs are, so I would also agree with cleaning them well, and putting them away for safe keeping until house breaking is ...

Well, I guess that settles it, off to the vet. She hasn't seen him since this injury, so she gets one more shot to impress me. Thanks!

Re: Best time of year for hair trimming?
I just had my guy groomed last week, the groomer said she got an entire trash bag of hair off of him. He is blowing his winter coat, she said she had other dogs that were doing the same thing. We had a warm blast, that may have triggered it, the sooner you get going the easier it will be to maintain...

Re: Injured playing in snow, need help!
Need some advice! I've been trying to get Buddha to rest since his injury, not much luck when he feels good! But I have noticed that he sometimes, but not always will take his weight off of that back leg while standing still. The vet said she could see him, or she would refer us to a specialist. He ...

The vet did not mention much about the study, she just brought it up. She is not my regular vet, unfortunatly, my vet of many years, retired to teach in Mississippi, so this new lady has only seen Buddha twice. I have asked all over town about her, and recieved all positive comments. She even called...

Re: Pet foods recommended by Vets
I think I agree as much as am an uninformed on this. My vet sells Science Diet, but I found a web-site that rated dog foods based on ingredients. Science Diet did not do well at all. Plus remember the terrifying recall last year, they were at the top of the list. I'll see if I can find that rating a...
