Re: Any Recent updates on Lily from Me&Tess
Lilly is doing better with Mike, but she still has her moments. She accepts treats from him and he has taught her to smell them first before she takes them. She also likes to go on longer walks when Mike is with us. On our walks she likes to take the lead now. Before she was more submissive, or she ...

Re: Any Recent updates on Lily from Me&Tess
Thank you for asking about Lilly. Lilly is my sweetie pie. She has change so much as we are approaching out third Christmas together. She loves cuddles & hugs. She wags her tail more and more. I ask her "Lilly are you OK?" and she answers me with a waggie tail. We went on our first big...

Re: Floppy Ears?
My Tess had one ear that had a break. Lilly's ears are small, thick, with a forward tilt. Your chow's ears look like Lilly's. Reminds me of a bear's ears. Both beautiful chow girls. Your chowling is beautiful too. "Small, moderately thick, triangular in shape with a slight rounding at the tip, ...

Re: YOGI BITES
I just wanted to add, I cried lots of tears in the beginning. It was very frustrating and it made me wonder about why we adopted Lilly. No one told us about her beginnings. Now I know what we did was the right thing and Lilly has a forever home with us. Please don't give up on Yogi.

Re: YOGI BITES
It is going to take a lot of work on your family's part to bring Yogi around. Unfortunately, some chows go thru abuse when an owner does not understand the breed. Then the poor chow is passed on to someone else. The damage that was done can be undone. My own Lilly was passed on. She attacked me one ...

I would be wary about giving tranquilizers. Our Lilly wasn't socialized either, & possibly abused or neglected emotionally. Our vet came out to the car to give Lilly her shots & I put the muzzle on her right before our vet came out. The second time we took her to the vet was for toenail clip...

Re: are they call chow chow ?
The cream/blond in pictures 1 & 2 looks almost wolf like. The old fashion Chows were larger, had longer legs & were longer in muzzle. My Tess was of that build. Interesting.

Re: Chows and tropical climates/Travelling with a Chow?
I feel like I should have posted this earlier. When we were moving from Southern California to Montana, we brought our dear Tess with. She sat on the back seat and would give paw just to touch us during our trip. She was the best travel companion. Sometimes I sat with her in the back. We took our tr...

Re: My Little Lilly
I started writing a children's book the second Christmas after Tess passed. I only visit it during Christmas time to work on it. I recently added Lilly to the book this Christmas & that is a quote from the story. I think the book is finished, but I am still editing it. Not to worry Lilly is stil...

Re: My Little Lilly
Lilly stood on a rock at the head waters and watched a leaf float out of sight. She listened to the soothing sounds of the waters flowing over rocks and pebbles. She wanted to remember the Creek of Waters Ever Flowing and vowed that someday she would return. Lilly took a deep breath of the piney fo...

Re: My Little Lilly
I haven't posted in a while about how Lilly is doing. To the point, great with caution. We are having our adventures. We still stay on out property for our walks. Winter was very cold & we had a lot of snow. That actually made it easier to walk amongst the fallen trees from Fall's big winds. Now...

Decomposing wood, dirt, what will a Chow eat?
I was out with Lilly yesterday like always. We were walking our west woods then over to our north woods in back of our garage. Lilly started smelling around like crazy, I thought at first she was trying to find a place to spend a penny, but it became apparent that it was not her goal. Her little nos...

Re: Am I being too sensitive?
Bad advice. Never ever slap a Chow (or any other species including humans) in the nose or face. It would only break the trust. Positive reinforcement is best. I would definitely find another trainer.

Lilly & I went on our first walk of the morning. She likes to go over to the creek, but has been venturing north east across the creek. It's like the forest-prime-evil back there and makes me a little nervous. West side of creek safe, east side of creek wild. She jumped over a huge log (a downed...

I agree about holding your chow by the scruff. I did that with Tess several times. A reminder for me to use it on Lilly. Good luck with the "no bite!"

Re: Should I be worried
I thought this article on hypothyroidism was interesting. It does sound like the condition is almost common. I give Lilly one egg per week, plus some other good foods as well as a high quality kibble. Good thoughts going your for you & your chow chow. http://dogcare.dailypuppy.com/iodine-deficie...

Re: My dog, Mimi bit my dad and now he seems hostile against
I am hoping with all my heart that everything has returned to "normal." Knowing how limited is a dog's (chow's) sight is, that had to be a consideration in what happened; dimmed lights, different smells. You all raised this chow boy from the time he was a pup. There is always risk when it ...

Re: My Little Lilly
I read mimis_dad's post and I hope he reads this & it helps. This last week Lilly lunged at Mike. He was rubbing her neck and got a little rough. Lilly turned on him and Mike pulled away quickly. She then went around the table and continued to growl and bark at him. There were lots of "No L...

Re: My Little Lilly
Our Lilly is growing up. She has been completely dependent on me. Wouldn't go out unless I went out with her; in the darkness of the evening (evening comes early in the north land), in the middle of the night, in the dawn of the morning. It has been really cold & I have to put layer upon layer o...

Re: Bed Jumper
One of the sweetest memories of my Tess was when she slept in our bed. She would nuzzle in there when Mike & I went to bed & make her own space pushing us this way & that, going around in circles until she was comfortable. She would jump in the bed when I said "I am going to take a ...

I would also suggest taking Pong to another vet & have blood work done & also have the vet take a scrapping sample of his skin for dx. Does sound like a breach in his immune system.

Sweet Chow Chow Smells
Tess had the sweetest smell to her, I have mentioned it was like clean clothes drying out in the fresh open air. When we got Lilly, which is coming up on a year, honestly, her odor was stinky! I missed that sweet Chow smell and wondered why Lilly stank so. Just this last month we noticed a big chang...
