Re: thunderstorm
...Onto another thought. I'm curious. Did Buddy have his surgery yet? If so, how did it go and how is he doing? Thanks for asking, Reddog. His fundraising campaign is still on. I should bring the topic I posted to the top. I don't think he's had his surgery yet. It's pretty pricey, especially since...

Re: Water
Yes. It is to help prevent bloat. Chows are one of the breeds that are prone to bloat. Some chowlings gulp their kibble down extremely fast. The meal boosts up their energy level and then they may want to play or run around vigorously. That could lead into torsion if their belly also had water in th...

Moderators' note: We are locking this thread. It is old and dated (2006), brought back live 6 years later. Original poster adopted a rescue chowling 2 years later, whose biological sister is Victory's Dreamdancer.

Re: thunderstorm
Last night we had an unusual April thunderstorm, lightening strikes (750+), chick pea size hail storm and a tornado warning just miles from my home! Lasted almost 4 hours. Stunning as lightening is to see, not really fond of thunder and lightening, I put the two chows here to use! At one point, I du...

Re: Paranormal Chow?
Sounds like something more practicle like she is sensing a night critter in your home... rat, bird, oppossum, bat, raccoon... whatever roams around in the evening in your area....night critter. Could be nesting in your eaves, in between a wall in your home, underneath a basement, or just in your yar...

Re: Peeing in the house
In the day, how long is she in the crate? She may need a pee-pee break in between. Maybe either you or your roommate might want to go home for lunch and let her do her thing. Her bladder isn't all that mature yet to hold it in for a long time. Why does she let loose on your roomie vs when you get ho...

Re: Please help
Get the xray's done. Better safe than sorry. You need to see what is going on in there with your chow girl. If you are still skeptical after your vet explains what the xray's show, then bring the xray's to another vet and seek a second opinion.

Re: Hector Not Wanting to Sit Anymore
Hello and welcome to the site. I just wanted to pass this link on to you which I posted a while back just as a fyi prevention/call to action. It's a topic on bloat. Chows are a bloat prone breed. If this goes on before your vet appt., feel his belly to make sure it isn't ballooning up. Please keep u...

Re: Hello from Louisiana
Welcome to the site, Jared. My condolences on the loss of "Puppy". Thank you for adopting a chow to love. Chows do come in brindle, which I consider multi-colored. But they are not show chows. They are just chows. Our family chow's coat was multi-colored. We met his parents and they were b...

Re: Can we run a Best Chow contest? Just for fun
Personally, I don't care for the idea of a Best Chow photo contest on this forum. I do think it could be a more appropriate thing for the chowchow.org Facebook Fan Page. It has taken so long for this forum to finally have a decent degree of harmony. Competition on such a subjective manner, moreover,...

Virtual Fundraiser for BUDDY!
http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/4809/buddyshaved2.jpg This is Buddy. He is an adopted chow-son of a ChowFest family up here in Northern California. He needs a total hip replacement and our group has come together to create a little *piggy* bank for his upcoming surgery. Please click on the link ...

Love him! He's your "Zhu", Auddymay! Same coloring and same weight. Lily is going to insist he stay. She's putting a lot of effort in giving him some self confidence to be free of the burdens of his past life. Lily told Miss PB that she was a noncertified chowtherapist, btw. You can foster...

Re: my chow's tongue looks like this
You reside in the Philippines? Then it shouldn't be too difficult to trace your chow's line and ask the breeder questions on its lineage if you are worried you purchased a non-pure breed chow. As others have pointed out, it is only a concern if you are planning to show him in the future. Personally,...

Re: Grizzly showing signs of cancer
Yes. I have with some of my chows. For the most part, I relied on my chows to tell me what to do. It was clear invasive surgery would not prolong their life and would not guarantee a better quality of life while here on earth. So, I chose the path of spending what time I had with them through mainte...

Re: Yogi needs your help. We need your help. Please look.
I am just wondering... to all chowguys and chowgals, : WHAT IF YOGI WILL RESIST the crate? Scenario would be: Mom holding Yogi's collar and then pulling him to the crate's door, then Yogi will resist and if Mom is still insisting, HE WILL GROWL at her to warn her? (If he'll growl - I read he doesnt...
