thanks we are debating it right now. I know the first thing would be to take him to our vet and have him throughly checked along with a bath and flea dip.

I need to find out more but yes that would be good, Problem is I won't have the weeks or months intially to spend with it like I planned. The rescue woman she says he acts like a retreiver and she has retreivers. So told her I would talk to my partner tonight and then let her know.

I spoke too soon I got another reply and called her > I think more retriever. He seems to go well with the other dogs not in > charge. > He is at risk of being put to sleep because he is still at the shelter > because we have no foster homes open right now. If you are interested in him > we could do...

rescue response -if you call it that.

Ok I am really disheartened. I inquired about a chow mix and asked some questions as well as described the dogs possibly new enviroment. I asked about health and behavior. and why he was marked urgent. This is the response I got He seems fine with other dogs that is it, no we are sorry your home env...

male vs female

Hi all, I need your thoughts. I currently have 2 male dogs, both young and 2 blind females both old. One female, a little cocker is the alpha of the house. I know I have read when adding chows you shouldn't have 2 males because of the ranking issue. Any clue which *Censored Word* would be better in ...

I haven't heard back from them yet but it has been less than 24 hours. I think the only reservations I have is the time factor and his socilization. I am not sure if it is the one, the picture is poor and since I got 2 dogs site unseen, and they are wonderful, it is hard to know if he is the one. Do...

I shouldn't even be looking.

Sorry if this isn't the right folder to post this. I am in the process of researching getting a chow and have decided from what I have learned it would be best to wait until summer when I could spend 2-3 months with a new chow or chow mix and aclimate it to its new home and furkids. Now saying that ...

Chris, nice to meet you. I live in Wausau. I see that the Wisconsin Chow rescue has closed. I contacted Kaatan and no word from them. I am being foolish and looking at petfinder and see so many nice dogs. My son's friend has a chow I have to speak with their parents to see if I can meet their dog an...

that is a great idea but there are no chow rescues within my state. Currently the closest chow - chow mix in my area humane societies is 90 miles away so volunteering probably isn't a viable option. I am not opposed to a mix.

more preadoption questions

first of all thanks for all the replies on my post yesterday, i have more questions. Is there a reccomended book that I could read or are most of them too generic to be useful? Is there a *Censored Word* which tends to be more easy going? From what I have read in the forum I get the impression that ...

I just got word that the chow that I am interested in has 5 applications infront of me which is ok, It will find a home and I am not ready yet. I notice there are alot of chows that need a home so when I am ready, now thinking...

WOW, First of thanks to everyone for all the replies, it is nice to have a group of people who know what they are talking about sharing it with those who want to know. one concern is that the blind dog will often walk around and bump into a dog, I wonder with poor vision, how a chow would take this....

considering adopting chow need thoughts -

Hi everyone, I need some advice, I was looking at our local humane society on line and saw a chow chow. I am considering adopting it but I am hesitant because I have read a lot of horror stories about chows. This is my situation. I have 3 dogs all rescues, 2 are blind and one is young. 2 males 1 fem...
