Re: Is he a small ChowChow ?
LOL wokman, just measured him , he is now 20 inches to shoulder and 27 inches nose to bottom, and weighs 26.5kgs. Rio will walk up a ramp, but he is groomed on the floor. I put him in his pen and groom in there, once he sees the brushes and comb he tends to let me get on with it, all be it with a fe...

Re: Is he a small ChowChow ?
Not sure, I think it depends a lot on the size of the parents, Rio was measured a month ago he was 17 inch to shoulder, and weighed 25 kgs (55 pounds) He has just turned 7 month but all the measurements I have put were from a month ago. His parents were quite big.

Re: crate training puppy?
I cannot give advice on crate training as I didn't use one but as for housetraining, take your puppy out every hour or so and after waking and after eating to a designated toileting area, praise when they go but try not to get overly excited, also try using a key-word when you take them out, along t...

Re: excercising chow puppy
We were told to only walk Rio for limited times but he hadn't heard about that rule!!!! As long as you don't over-exercise them you can in fact walk them (nice easy pace) for a few hours if required. Not many people do this what with busy household schedules and daily routines, too much exercise can...

Re: feeding chows how much
I don't feed by cup amounts, I feed by weight of food, whether that wet or dry. I take the recommended amount for weight of dog and go with the lowest and see how they go, if they need more I give slightly more. Currently Rio is on two proper meals a day, by that I mean he has dry biscuits twice a d...

Re: Please settle a disagreement
I personally don't like the doggy coats, they have perfectly good coats (two in Chows cases) to protect from rain, unless it is a monsoon it is only the top coat that gets wet anyway. Whats next wellington boots and a brolly? LOL. (mental image of chow in wellies holding a brolly just popped in my h...

We have baby gates up for Rio and my grandson, there is also one that goes to the cats room that has a small kitty-flap for them. Rio smushes his face up against them like a convict, he is funny.

Re: dry food & canned food, what else?
I do agree with the changing of dry food, but I stick with dry foods that have fewer ingredients than Orijens. I am sure it is an excellent product and many people use it but it still has rather a lot of mixed meats and fish in there, would be a nightmare to work out any intolerences if one arose. T...

Re: Chapter Missing
I too have a faulty Chow when it comes to apparently not liking the rain, he LOVES it, and usually protests if we come back in, he does like being rubbed down with towels though!!!! We just have to ignore the Chow-sized wet patch on the floor rug.

Ok silly question, could you maybe sail rather than fly? Or is that just totally out of the realms of possibility?

Re: dry food & canned food, what else?
I can tell you what I feed RIo, he has 370gms (spread over 2 or 3 meals) of Burns dry food mixed with salmon oil, has occasional chicken breasts,he has about a cup and a half of rice every day. He loves cheese but we do limit this to a treat every 3 or 4 days. I have yet to find a cheese he doesn't ...

I tend not to go throught the entire forum, I just check for new postings and also un-read posts. If I am looking for something specific I just search a key word and usually find what I am looking for.

Maybe a higher order decided you needed a chuckle and sent you Cocoa to get you through the rough days. I say if you don't miss them they were never true members of your family. You can't miss something if you never loved it.

Thankfully being a cat breeder I have seen most tricks when it comes to selling animals, it just amazes me that people do in fact fall prey to these worthless people.

Wish they could be stopped......
I do not know if this is a problem around the world, but I am so sick and tired of people posting on pets for sale websites about Chows and other pedigree dogs that they are selling for less than a quarter of the current price. Before we found Rios' breeder you would not believe some of the absolute...

Re: Recommended amount of protein for chow pup ? :-)
If you struggle to find the food locally Burns have a delivery service. Suprisingly though I have found that Zooplus and Amazon are cheaper. Zooplus have offers on food quite a lot and you can find all kinds of good offers on dog products too. Hope that the correction on the food front works out for...

Re: Recommended amount of protein for chow pup ? :-)
I had him on the canine extra for about a month and it didn't seem to help much, so I would say the High energy Lamb. You didn't say how much Lola weighs, Rio has just under the maximum for his weight, he is currently 25kgs and is about to turn 7 months. Have you tried feeding her seperately? She ma...

My bad, sorry. Maybe he just can't be bothered with the misbehaving doggies. I would assume if push came to shove he would defend himself.

Re: Where's the "CHOW" in him?
Read this post earlier and was a little shocked actually, why the heck would you want an aggressive dog? Rio doesn't bark at other dogs when we are out, he generally wants to play. I find it quite infuriating when other dog owners find it 'cute' that their dog goes into barking mayhem whenever they ...

Aww that's awful Cam. Yeah I know they cool down more through panting, we sometimes have puddles when it is hot from Rio's attempts to cool down lol.
