Re: Meat (Chicken/Beef) for Chow
If your chow does not have any alleries or intolerance to them then it's perfectly fine. Mine does well with beef, fresh lamb, rabbit and pork but only the occasional chicken as she develops an intolerance to chicken if taken too often. She scratches like crazy with fish so that is out of the equati...

Re: My chow's size
She still falls into the breed standard height for chows which is 16- 22inches at the shoulder. 43 cm is 16.93 inches. Girls are 16-20 and guys are 18-22 usually. There are even smaller chow chows marketing people call them mini chows'. Translation: too small for breed standard or runts. There are a...

Hi kevin! my chestnut has greasy skin due to seborhea (sp?) sothe doctor suggested Perla and/or sulfur soap before the shampoo. For dog soaps I like Miah or Superdog. Go to cartimar you will go crazy with the selection.

Re: Shampooing Chow
Before I discovered you could soap up first I used to shampoo twice. Reason was she was so dirty and first shampoo barely lathered and came up with gray or brown suds from the dirt. Now that I use soap beforehand I just shampoo once after for the scent and extra cleansing. The soap I use is dirt che...

Hi Pinoy51! Orijen it is then. I get Orijen at any Pet express outlet and certain pet stores like Pooch Park. Pet Express is owned by SM. so there is a huge one in Mall of Asia. Make sure Sally is ok with Chicken though as that is the top protein source. thanks so much for easing my worries Pinoy51....

dilute the shampoo. You know those transparent mustard ketchup squeeze bottles the diner uses? I put about 1Part shampoo to 5 parts water in two bottles as i can only find the smaller squeeze bottle. I thoroughly wet my girl with water and section her her and directly streak squirt on her skin and m...

Ideal dog poop appearance?
I am sorry for the gross topic but I really want to feed my dog the right grain free food. Well the choices in the Phils. is limited and so far I have been feeding Orijen Adult and alternate with Go! Sensitivity and shine Turkey Recipe. She eats both, has more energy and does not scratch excessively...

Re: My Chow killed a toy pomeranian please need advice
she knows your pomeranian and considers her a pack member so Maggie is perfectly safe. Your sister and her friend are very irresponsible but you have to step up. do not let another dog enter the personal space of Lily that is just asking for it. That poor Pom! Listen to Pinoy51 he has successfully i...

That kid was a brat! Your poor Theo! Where were that kids' irresponsible parents? The nerve to tell you not to have a Chow. Well, they should not have kids if they cannot raise them properly. Theo had no fault whatsoever. In a way i am glad he nipped you instead because can you imagine the lawsuit? ...

Re: MY CHOW ISN'T SLEEPING WITH ME ANY MORE
I think when they get older they want their personal space. It is also summertime and they do not like cuddling in warm weather especially when they have their full adult fur. Whatever bed we get Chestnut she prefers the cold tile or floor during the rest of the year especially summer. When we hit J...

Re: Sally's progress
Hi Pinoy51! Trust me, Sally's fur looks wayyyy better than pampered overprotected Chestnut. I pulled her out of VIP b/c she has grown resistant to ivermectin and the demodex is now out of control and her last shots resulted in puss filled lumps. I changed her vet to Dr. sicam from Kamuning who did a...

Hi! If you bought him in the Phils. Most likely would be a rough coat. Meaning the one that grows a long mane and lots of hair. A smooth coat would have no market in the Philippines as they are considerd short hair. We like our Chows shaggy in the Phils. I have yet to seea smooth anywhere in the Phi...

That is one handsome boy and he looks huge! He will probably be taller than Sally and more muscular than Simba. I'm glad he was adopted by you as he is sure to have a ready made pack with 3 chows and a family who will love him unconditionally. That is one lucky boy who will live a long happy life.

The solid blue tongue is a very good sign that your baby is pure breed. Im looking at the huge paws as well. Do you have a picture of the butt? Chows have very distinctive cotton ball butt. I am disturbed though that they sold her to you at under 2 months. Not very caring breeders. Hope it was at le...

Re: addicted to chow chow
I am addicted to my little girl Chestnut as well. But they are high maintenance dogs. Do not think of breeding him until he is two years old at least. That is advisable for female chows especially to make sure their organs and immune system are fully matured. I decided to have my girl spayed instead...

I had to shave my baby when she got a chronic case of demodex mange with bacterial nfection. It took six months minimum for people to identify her as a chow chow. Before that it was 'what breed is your dog'. Or no way is she pure chow is she half spitz? The worse was is she dying? Cancer? Chemo?

Re: Other breeds similar to Chow in temperament and behavior
Chunkymonkeys is right. The closest i can think of is the shar pei. They are booth aloof to strangers, territorial and a one master dog. They both hardly bark. Chows are cuddlier looking though and have less exercise requirements. They also have the tendency towards skin problems
