Dreamdancer misses his mom
My mama left days and days ago, [ it was tuesday morning] she said, "be good and I'll see you later." Well it's been later and later and later and mama still isn't home. [I'm in the hospital] First this strange guy we'd only seen a couple of times came over and took us out for walks and fe...

Lovely way of saying that, Judy. And very true.Judy Fox wrote:You call her "your little Lilly" - but she is also "her own little Lilly" isn't she?
Gradually, the two Lillys will merge into the same girl.

That's cute. They look comfy together. And Shelby is such a good looking collie, with his slightly squared off muzzle and he's a big boy. Reminds me of my Blaze.

Re: BSL up in NC
I think one of the things that the public needs to do is find a way to get the insurance companies to come up with new data and stop using this outdated nonsense. 20 years is how many generations for dogs? Under normal breeding conditions between 10 and 15. So many things can change during that time...

Re: Puppy Question (curly tail?)
The curly tails normally happen with the cinnamons and sometimes the creams, the darker chows, (blacks, blues and self reds) tend to have straight tails that lay over the back, not the curly tails of other spitz types, (Akitas, Sammoyeds, huskies and Malamutes) The degree to which the tail fits to t...

Re: Is he a small chow?
at 3.5 months and 26lbs I'd say he is just where he should be, at 6 months he will be around 60% of his adult weight and size. The males tend to grow quickly for the first full year and then spend the next 18 to 24 months putting on muscle and bone mass, maybe an inch or two. I wouldn't count a male...

Re: Rottweilers?
Rotties are great dogs, but like chows they need training, lots of training. They are guard and attack dogs, it's what they were bred for. They are extremely loyal and protective. They are strong, intelligent, somewhat independent. They sort of chose the people they like and respect and will place t...

Re: dog on dog aggression
Many female chows are hyper. If you read through many of the posts on here you will find that over half the chows with crazy, hyper behaviors are the females. Many have earned the title HRH, (Her Royal Highness) because of their attitudes. The notion that chows are either overly aggressive or laid b...

Re: Should I shave my chow?
What I find concerning about this question is that 40-50 degrees is not hot and should NOT cause any problems while exercising in a chow old or young. 70+ degrees especially with high humidity can cause issues, but it's only at 80, 90 degrees or higher that I'd expect problems. Minnesota has what ar...

Re: My Little Lilly
I am sorry to read that Lilly bit you. I am happy however, to see that she and you are working on it. I feel as you do that she was very poorly trained. I don't think that she was taught proper bite hibition and that when she got excited and continued to be excited, (as proven by her shredding the p...

Re: Chow siblings fighting
Chows play rough, it is one of the breed's traits. They also will sound like they are trying to kill each other, growling, snarling, along with huffing and puffing. From 6 to 8 weeks is when they should have been learning how far they can go with rough housing. If they haven't learned it now, it's n...

Re: Chow position when lying down
My girl does it, most of my boys have done it, my current boy does it partially, one leg out straight behind him then he switches sides. It's about cooling off, the heavier the coat they've had the more often they do it. Laying like that gets their belly flat on the floor or dirt and allows them to ...

Re: dog on dog aggression
A chow and a malamute share a double coat, but nothing else, especially personality. Chows do not take well to alpha rolls, (which is what pinning is, whether on the back or on the side it's an alpha roll) Alpha rolls will make your chow hand shy which means that she'll start to withdraw from you, a...

Re: how big is your chow's teeth?
Most chows have fairly large teeth as compared to other medium sized dogs. They have what is called scissor bites normally. However it is sometimes hard to see the full size of their teeth, because of the shape of their mouths, unlike GSDs or other pointed muzzled breeds where the lips are thin and ...

I already posted on your FB page as have many members from this site. As I said there breeding this dog is immoral and vile. As bad as blindness is for a dog, deafness is far, far worse. Given that hearing is one of their primary senses with smell. For a dog the senses are smell, hearing, sight, tou...

It seems if people go by the posts in this thread the companies selling Vegetarian Soy dog food should be lynched. I mean how do these companies survive if it's doing such damage to the dogs. Crazy.. When I do a search I find mostly soy FREE foods, and a lot of the so-called vegitarian foods, use c...

That is an untalked about side effect for some females. It's not talked about much, but you will notice on here that most of the HRH females have all been spayed. They stop producing estrogen when they are spayed, but they still have a normal level of the other hormones and those take over. Spaying ...

Re: Vegeterian Chow Chow diet
Soy protein from soya beans is not the same as the meat protein. Trust me. I know. Theoretically, soy pro is a good alternative to meat, i know that , for us humans , we can get away with it. For dogs, not so much. You can feed him both. But not solely on the other. Those telling you or those writi...

Re: Vegeterian Chow Chow diet
Actually, it's the length of the intestinal track that is the culprit. Humans have a very long intestinal track, this allows us to throughly process all the foods we eat very efficiently. (Horses as true herbivores actually don't process foods very well, they just eat huge quanities.) Carnavores hav...

Frankly I'm just the opposite of Tippy's mom, I prefer the males. Mostly because I love the size and weight of the males. But in this case I'd take one of females. That male puppy is TOO independent, he'll be tough to bond with and train. The females do seem to be a lot more frisky, and have higher ...

They could be chow/crosses. Hard to tell at this age. The eyes appear to be dark, so they are around what 7-8 weeks old? They may have just begun weaning which would explain the not eating. Could the vet give you a guesstimate on age? As for their mouths turning dark, normall a black chow pup would ...

I don't go to the FB site. But I don't like the looks of this puppy. Not sure why anyone would post the picture, according to every thing I've read a chows should have a distinctive stop from forehead to nose, and the nose shouldn't be so squished that it connects with the forehead. You're right Sir...
