I thought the same about my Baxter. He would only be friendly to everyone who came to our house. However, he would bark at anyone prowling around our house whenever we (or him) were asleep. It wasn't until i had one of our maintenance men come over to perform some work in my apartment that i found o...

I've noticed with my Baxter too! If he has an accident when i'm gone (the most recent one i can remember is him getting sick on my bed.... ), he will greet me at the door and whine until i follow him to see what is wrong. How can you get mad with that?

I guess i should put my comment in the right thread... I think it's well within the rights of a private company to choose who they insure, and what it should cost. But it's also in my right to take my money elsewhere if i don't like the level of service they provide. I guess i don't have a problem w...

Just my 2 cents in here when it comes to "chows are mean". chows are on the home owners insurance companies list of "uninsurable dogs". So, if you want say for instance STATE FARM to give you home owners insurance... if you have a chow, they will turn you down... (if they know y...

Are you sure his *Censored Word* glands aren't leaking? Baxter will have a really putrid smell follow him right after his leak.

Baxter will take treats from anyone, BUT he will smell EVERYTHING before he eats it. Does anyone else's Chow do this?

He will just keep smelling everything we give him. I guess he doesn't want to be fooled into accidently eating a dreaded pill!

My Baxter will unroll his tail and flatten it when he is stalking something. That is the only time i will see him drop his tail.

Here's the scoop i got on *Censored Word* glands from the veterinarian. They're located right inside the anus, at the 4 and 7 position, and will get squeezed everytime your dog does a #2. If your dog has persistent diarhea and/or loose stool these glands will not be "squeezed" and will fil...

Patrick,
Join the club! You are part of his staff and he must be attended to! My chow, Baxter, has done what you are describing since he was a tiny puppy.

For all the other Chow owners out there, do Chows have *Censored Word* glands like Pugs that will bother them from time to time?

Baxter will lick his front legs, but he also uses them to clean his face. The Chow's version of a damp washcloth?

Quick update on Baxter. He started swimming this week! I've taken him to the local dog park for the past 2 weeks and he has been in the lake wading every time. This past week he decided that he wants to follow all the other dogs into the "deep" part and started to swim!

I've done some research on Chows and their lineage and some things have sparked my interest. First, the have 2 more teeth than dogs. Second, their back legs are straight. Last, their tongues are blue. The author of the article i was reading (don't remember which one) stated that all the small pandas...

Whenever i'm at the dog park i'm also wary of American Bulldogs. Like Pits they are extremely powerful for their size and also display signs of aggression. Luckily, the only one i've met so far in this area was muzzled and taken away once he started to act aggressive towards other dogs. I feel sorry...

Speaking of seperation anxiety. I currently live in a one bedroom about 3 hours from my wife (we're both military, but stationed apart). My wife has a 4 bedroom house with a fenced yard. Whenever Baxter comes to visit he has the most awful seperation anxiety. I will leave for work and he will scratc...

I forgot about sprinklers! Our precious guy will stand there and let the sprinkler spray him. It is the funniest thing to watch. I would really like to know what is going on in his head sometimes.

When Baxter was younger he didn't like "rubs." Now the older he gets the more rubs he wants. It's like an addiction for him now. Whenever my wife and I are sitting on the couch he'll walk up and present his rear end to us. Of course we have to oblige!

Hmmm, Baxter tends to pull on his leash like a mad person/dog. I wonder if that is leading to his legs getting strained. It might very well be! For some reason Baxter loves to get his butt rubbed. He'll come up to my wife and I and turn around and then turn his head towards us. That means we're allo...

Thanks Judy!
It's exactly as you've explained. He feels no pain when i run my hand down his leg, and the vet does not see anything wrong with him. I guess i'll just have to keep an eye on him.

I've taken my 8 month old Chow, Baxter, to Lake Michigan twice since i've moved to North Chicago. He loves the water! He tries to go deeper and deeper every time we go. It was quite hot yesterday (in the 80s) so it must have been a cool relief for him. So far he goes up to his chest. I'm curious to ...
