Re: Chins in the way!!!!!!
Ever use a jewelers chain/box chain? It's all I ever used on Gonzo. The problem is the only places I've found them is at dog shows or online.

Re: my 7 1/2 month old chow is out of control.
Easy food aggression fix.
NILIF (nothing in life is free) + feed him every meal out of your hand. He will understand food comes from you and not the bowl. After months of this you can slowly go back to his bowl.

Re: HELLO! Meet Dr. Gonzo
Here is an update on gonzo. He has turned one last month on the 15th, over the year we have been together, he pulled a muscle running at the dog park around 6 months, that has healed wonderfully. He has had 2 hot spots, once due to not getting a little shampoo out of his fur on the inside of his leg...

Re: Choke Chain pulling Hair out
I use a variation of the choke chain called a jewelers chain or a box chain. It wont pull the hair, you can run it through your own hair and see for yourself. The only places I have seen them is at dog shows, some mom and pop pet stores or what I do amazon.com here is a link to what I am using on my...

Re: Is this shedding normal?
Should I get him to the vet, or just throw out the rest of this bag of Innova and try another brand? Also, will washing him make this worse? Its been almost 3 months since his last bath. And again, does anybody know of any subsitute for gentocin(an expensive spray for hot spots the vet gave me).

Re: Is this shedding normal?
I believe the food may have something to do with it. I have used EVO all 11 months I have owned him, but the pet store told me somebody bought out the company and i switched to Innova. Im half way through his first large bag of innova red, I guess next time I need to try something else.

Re: Is this shedding normal?
I read this post about a week ago when I noticed little tufts of hair about to all off of Gonzo all over him. He is my first chow chow so i figured he was blowing his coat. But tonight when i brushed him, I filled up a good shopping bag of fur and noticed this. One shoulder the skin looks fine but t...

hot spot or ringworm?
I noticed Dr. Gonzo has been chewing at his foot every now and then but there was no visible problem. Today I looked down to find this on his back leg. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/angelicplague/DSC00534.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/angelicplague/DSC00533.jpg I plan on taking...

florida summer is comming
and im wondering if any of you know about raising chow's in this climate. Today the temp was 83f and rather humid, a sure sign florida (9months of) summer is on the way. Is there anything special I should do or avoid doing? I know this is a very broad question, but I have some free time and figure I...

Dog Parks?
What do you guys think of them? Ever let your chows use them? Dr. Gonzo got his last set of shots and his vet suggested I take him as often as I can. The past 3 days I have taken gonzo and he cracks me up. I let him off his leash since the park is for dogs and fenced in, he doesn't seam to intereste...

Re: a bit worried
He does not get aggressive around his food at all. As for basic commands he knows sit, stay, shake, he plays fetch but when he brings his toy back he likes to hold on to it, so were are currently working on "Drop It". I have read most of the post in the training section and have been worki...

a bit worried
Yesterday I was out on a walk with Dr. Gonzo when he came upon a toad. He instantly went after it, pinning it down on the ground and violently shaking his head. I told him drop it and Jerked on his leash to try and get him to move along. He then started growling, but not like he does when I make noi...

Re: So irritated...
I recently moved, but where used to live, there was a house at the front of my neighborhood full of these "gangster" types, anyways they always had a BIG rottie on the porch loose almost every day, he was an easy 150lbs. He has chased me on my road bike a few times but I was almost always ...

Re: advice
Yea, the breeder really stressed that I should only use a jewelers style choke chain or a British style slip lead, she said normal collars or harnesses will damage their fur, but his safety is of the utmost importance to me so I think I will try to pick up a harness. Also a friend pointed out that h...

advice
Its been a little over a week and I swear Dr. Gonzo has potty trained himself. I am a student at the University of Central Florida, so he has met well over 20 people and is always great. He knows sit, no, no bite, and shake already and he is just 10 weeks, he is the perfect little puppy, but... the ...

HELLO! Meet Dr. Gonzo
After 4 years of going back and fourth on this breed, and the death of my chihuahua, this year I decided its time to get a chow chow. So about 6 months ago I found this site, read through just about every article I could, found Janie at Shanghai Chows and gave her my deposit. This week Dr. Gonzo tur...
