Yes Jeff - I agree. This is a human rights issue as well as a pets issue. Also, I cannot understand why people are not fighting back. Police would take Milly and Mabel away over our dead bodies and I mean literally we would fight and takes sticks to the police. That is if the police arrived before w...

Yes, Milly and Mabel love their 'birds nests' rubbed - you know, they bit of their lower back which is covered by their curled tail!! They also love being rubbed and massaged. However you have no doubt heard of the saying, "Dogs have owners and cats have staff!" Well, I suggest we c...

I don't use a collar with Milly and Mabel. I use harnesses with a long lead for each of them - actually it is a pony lunge rein - 27 ft. long. It is nice and strong and stopped Milly and Mabel pulling like mad dogs when they were younger. Walks had become almost a misery with M & M pulling like ...

You are very welcome Nick, it is very difficult not to worry a little when these things happen. Mabel is now four and half and we have had her for over four years and Fred still worries when this happens. I don't worry any more - I just rub her legs and she snucks her head between my shins and wags ...

If you have had Baxter to the vet and possibly/probably ruled out Hip Dysplasia, I would suggest that it is simply stiff legs after lying down too long or perhaps too heavily. Mabel used to suffer from this when she was younger and sometimes still does. I took her to the vet who gave her a thorough ...

Oh! Deary Me! I don't have any experience of difficult grooming - Milly and Mabel are so good. However, my suggestion would be - take a deep breath! Get a cup of coffee! Lay her on the floor on her tummy with her back legs tucked out! Sit down by her (talking to her all the time - sure I don't have ...

Wonderful Nick! I am going to buy Milly and Mabel a kiddie pool this year - sometimes it gets very hot in the summer here on The Island and several of the Chows over The Pond have kiddie pools - so I am going to try ome for M & M. It will be interesting to see if they go and lie in it like - Shi...

Don't worry, his coat should start to come through soon - I worried about Milly when she was a baby as she seemed to keep her very dark baby chowling coat for what seemed like ages - then all of a sudden her big chow girl coat started to grow through and she became a chow! I am no expert, mind, just...

Good Grief Carolyn - I absolutely forgot about that! Lying on the chowling! Rhiannon, our daughter has a Standard Schnauzer. Hector us gorgeous but when he was a pup he was a little 'sod'. That is what she used to do with him. Now I don't know who told her or whether she read it. Schnauzers are very...

Jeff, That Chow has you completely and utterly under her paw! I have read your posts and they are so funny - Pekoe has wonderful attitude. Milly and Mabel are good - we groom them ourselves - however they will not let Fred into their knickers! They will let me sort out inbetween their back legs and ...

Oh! Elaina, isn't it wonderful when it happens like that! I am so pleased for you and I am delighted that the two get on and that she now has a home and someone to love. Aren't you the lucky one though - purple kisses even - very rare in the Fox household! I have been getting some little tiny purple...

Had you thought of giving her a brush as a toy, Jeff or just leaving it around on the floor for her to familiarise herself with then just give her a few brushes every time to get the minute to do so.
These Chows are just so individual arn't they!!
Anyway, good luck! :D

No I did not use anything, just the tablets. I suggest you just see how your tablets work. The vet wanted to know, I think how Mabel was. The tablets worked and we have had not trouble since. After everything righted itself, we gave her a nice bath with a conditioning shampoo, mainly as a regular ba...

At last, Carolyn, I have got down to reading this post. Hello again Michelle - my question answered!
Try to give it until after the boy chow has been spayed - this is so sad and I wish I had the answer for you.
Try to think back - did anything happen just before they started to fight?
What a damn shame!

Best of luck.

No Michelle, we have never had a cross word between Milly and Mabel. However, we did not get them together as chowlings - Milly was 6 weeks old when we brought her home and when she was 6 months old, we heard that her litter sister needed a home so we bought her. They are litter sisters and when we ...

Mila, This happened with Mabel a little while ago. Her skin and her coat were very dry. A lady I knew suggested I give her an Oil of Evening Primrose capsule every evening - I tried it but it made her sickly so I took her to the vet and he gave her some tablets that I had to give her twice a day. I ...

Milly and Mabel hate wet grass too - however, when out on a walk they will happily paddle through puddles with gay abandon when on the scent of squirrel of bunnies or whatever!

Then when we get home they stand and pick each foot up in turn to be wiped!
