Re: Rottweilers?
I'm a little late jumping I but I would have to say like chows rotties need lots of socialization. And unfortunately sometimes lots of training. My sister had a rottie that was likely from a backyard breeder who was never trained or socialized but was wonderful nonetheless & extremely protective...

Re: Cream Chows and pigmentation...
I have had several purebred chows, some with papers & some without. My first creme chow didnt have papers because we had the choice to pay more & get papers or pay less without papers. Since there was never a plan to show or breed we took the less expensive option. :) Of course, that was alm...

I keep the underneath of Chumley's chin trimmed which helps some but doesn't completely stay clean.

I don't wax my wood floors cause all of us slide around corners, lol! I also keep rugs in strategic spots like where they jump off the bed & at doorways.

Another great trick is canned tuna. Every chow I have had loves it. Just takes a little (like tablespoon) mixed in with the dry food.

Lol, mine are just as lazy when they are inside but as soon as mom or dad comes home the know its time to go outside. That's when the zoomies begin, for about 15min then they have to take a break. In the cool weather Chums lays in yard & Belle lays on the deck step and stand guard over their kin...

Re: Which Chow food is best for my dog.....???
This has been widely debated. Some believe only way to go is a raw natural diet. But if you are going to use dry dog food it's best to find a brand that is all natural, grain free & free of by-product meal cause chows can have grain -allergies. I currently use purina pro plan select chicken but ...

Re: Chapter Missing
I think my chows have read different handbooks, lol. Belle hates the rain. Unless she really has to go, she will take one step out & right back in she comes. Chumley on the other hand loves the rain & will play in it for hours. Thank goodness for hardwood floors cause that rascal gets water ...

Re: feeding chows how much
I have always free fed my chows. I have a large automatic feeder so that they can eat when they please. I may have the unusual ones but my chows never overeat. When they were puppies I would take the food up when I was going to be gone so that he/she did not accidently choke on food but otherwise wh...

A gorgeous GSD & Chow mix. My Iggy, who has now crossed over, was one & had a complete purple tongue. He was a rescue but I knew the lineage (long story)...mom purebred & dad chow shepherd. My vet said in order to have the complete blue/black (I always called purple) tongue that meant he...

I too use a baby gate with Belle when she is in time-out or if people she doesnt like comes over. She never tries to cross but is the rare barker & will let me know her displeasure at being behind the gate. I outsmarted her by putting a small blanket over the gate...out of sight, out of mind. \:D/

Re: so sad, i think my beautiful girl has Glacomoma
You have to attack this as you would any disease. Once you have the results then make a plan to save her by any means necessary. If she loses her sight then she can still live a full life. My Jr. lost his sight due to health problems but got around just fine. Like wokman said 'dont rearrange anythin...

Re: hi all new chow owner any info on them would be ace :)
Ditto to all the above. My best advice is to remember chows are unlike any other breed. The training, socialization and everyday life will be different than with staffies. I can only tell you what I have seen in the breed. All my chows have been fiecely independant, on the lazy side, very food orien...

London, Kentucky here. I live in a small rural 'city'. We dont have dog parks but can walk the furkids in the people park. I have a small fenced in yard so that they can run & play. I tried to invite friends over and take them on plenty of car rides. I groom my own, like Victory, but I just use ...

Re: They grow up too fast?
Thanks, I love sharing my babies. Belle & Chumley are rough coated chows & they tend to be fluffier from the get go. Their ears usually come up in their own time so I wouldnt worry too much. Belle & Chumley are related that is why they look kinda alike. Belle's older sister (from another...

Congratulations on the newest member of your family! all of my chows grew the most in the first 6 months and for the first few months kept doubling their weight. I have only seen the parents of the 2 I have now (others were rescue) and they are about the same size as their parents. Belle topped out ...

Re: Flea and Tick Control for My Furr Kids
With Bella & Chumley I use Heartguard chewables monthly & Frontline Plus topical. I have found that I dont have a problem reaching their skin with the frontline if I take the grooming brush and use it to brush back the hair then apply the stuff to their skin.

Just because you dont have room for another chow or money for donations doesnt mean that you cant help...you can help by sharing the chows in need with your friends via facebook or email and by asking them to share.

Cherriemater, I dont forsee any problems with your 2 since they were born & raised together. When that happens they tend to have already worked out that alpha thing as they were growing up. You know from watching them if one is always 1st to do everything (greet you, go out doors, feed, etc). If ...

If he is destroying things while you are gone then I would say that he has some seperation anxiety. But if not it could mean something is wrong or mean nothing at all. Like Rio said it could mean that your dog senses that you need rest. It could mean that your dog is not feeling well and wants to re...

Re: Squat or leg lift?
I think that a chow's personality also has something to do with how they pee. My alpha girl always squated until we got our foster chow 'Buddy'. Now she squats & hikes her leg...I laugh everytime I see her do it. But Chumley, my laid back chow (who is intact) squatted until he was about a 8 mont...
