Re: what is your chow chow's weight?
Bella is a shortcake - weighing only 45lbs at 2 yrs old but Chumley, now he is gonna be huge (hopefully), at 6 1/2 months he weighs 61 lbs. In my experience, puppies will gain weight quckly up to 6 months then weight gain slows down and they fill out. The bigger the chow the longer it takes until co...

Microchip...Yea or Nea
For the first time I am considering microchipping my chows. We have a locked, fenced yard and haven't really worried about it before. But the more I hear about dogs getting lost or stolen then reunited with the owner years later due to the microchip the more I am thinking about it. Does anyone know ...

Greenies Pill Pockets
O My Gosh, these have to be one of the best things invented! I only wish I had found them sooner. We have an older girl who has to take pills for incontenance. After several years she has started pick around the pill (have tried putting it in cheese, hotdogs & canned dog food) but she loves the ...

Re: Invisible Fence
This is probably not what you wanted to hear but I would have to agree with the 'solid' fence. Our property is outside the city limits & only had restictions on the type/size of house. We had the property surveyed; then had the fence company put the fence 1 foot inside the line. We have chain li...

Re: No apartments will have us!
I know how you feel. It's been about 6 to 8 years ago that we decided to check to see if we could get a better rate on house insurance. At that time we had 5 chow chows and this old insurance old guy pulled into the driveway, took one look at our babies & said that he wouldn't even give us a quo...

Re: scarring on nose
I am so glad that Nikki is ok, but sounds like she is just being a chow. At my house any animal that made it thru the fence was a gonner when Leo & Iggy were patroling. But don't be disappointed if her nose scars don't change back. Leo & Igggy did not always get along & Leo ended up with...

Re: No Ca Bay Area Boarding Recommendations PLEASE
I dont have any recomendations for your area but a general recomendation... Have you thought about paying someone to stay at your house and chow sit? A friend or someone close that you would trust. We have a family member that does it for us and I pay her the same as I would pay the boarding kennel....

Re: My cute two headed chow, lol
Thanks all, I just love to share pics like any proud mom and they are full of mischief. It seems to be a pattern...the older ones teaching the younger ones things like how to open the trash can & shred paper.

My cute two headed chow,lol
That was my thought when I saw this pic, they are so close in color they just blend together.
But here they are seperate...Belle and Chumlee
and when Belle gets tired of playing she jumps up on something (like the bed)- Tue May 18, 2010 1:23 pm

Re: ATTN Owners of senior chows.. i have a ?
I have had four senior chows and they have all acted differently as they aged. My chow-shepard, Iggy, got more cuddly. Iggy always followed me around but as he got older he followed my husband around too. Leo just seemed more calm and content but Lady has gotten more distant. Junior went blind and w...

Developing incontenence after spaying?
Soon we will have another member of our household and with it a delima. Should we have our male or female fixed or both? We had Lady spayed after she had puppies at about 1 1/2 years old but by the time she was 6 she started having incontinence issues. Now she has to take 1 pill a day to stop it. No...

Re: Need help chosing a name
I do like "Adonis" cause he is a gorgeous litte guy. We adopted our first chow in 1995 and have since had a Belevedere, Leo, Lady, Noddingham, Leo Chow Jr., Leoette, and Iggy and each one have exactly fit their name. As chowpups said, I am sure it will come to us once he is here. I love he...

Re: Need help chosing a name
I too liked "Beau" as in Beauregard, which suits him so far since he seems to be a laid back southern gentleman. But my husband doesn't like it so I doubt if it will stick.

Need help chosing a name
In 2 weeks we will be picking up a companion for Belle. The problem is we cannot decide on a name. Belle's name was easy since she is named in honor of our very first chow boy Belevedere. Any ideas? This is a pic of him.

Re: Dog Beds?
As young chowlings mine loved to lay on the hardwood and on the air vent but anytime I had dirty clothes on the floor they would go for that first. The only time Leo would lay on a bed or couch was when we shaved off his hair in the summer. Now that they are old (12 & 13) they love the memory fo...

Re: senior lady & baby girl not getting along, any advice
Just an update to anyone watching... As someone pointed out she is obviously going to be the leader of our chow clan. So I have been trying to be a little firmer with Bella. When Lady comes in and Bella starts to go for the ears I just lightly tap her nose and state firmly 'NO' (a tip from a trainer...

senior lady & baby girl not getting along, any advice
We have added to our family after 10 years (we lost the leader of our clan & had hoped to raise the others spirits). Our family currently includes Iggy (13 yrs), Lady (12yrs) and Bella (11 months). At first Lady & Bella were getting along (after all Bella looked very similar to her own babie...
