Re: Head & Shoulders or Nizoral for itchy skin?
Update: Equiderma stopped the itch. Hello, After getting desperate, i called Equiderma in mid december to ask about their product and place my order. It seems they did not receive my previous emails and they are very nice people. I ordered the shampoo and the lotion as per their recommendation. The ...

Re: Discipline
Based on recent studies, alpha dogs do not exist. Scientists prefer to call them the breeding male and breeding female. Just like in a human pack. So alpha rolls and such do not occur in the wild within a pack of wolves. This might happen in captivity between non pack members like in a human prison....

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
Hmm... Thank you for the info Rory's dad. I have seen them learn how to change their walking pattern when on slippery floors but i haven't looked at this situation from this perspective. It is true that the paw fur doesnt cover the whole pads but what the vet said made me think that the fur could po...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
@Rory's dad Regarding the fur between the paw pads and fingers, i asked the vet once about them to check if they should be trimmed. And that is because my dog was slipping when walking on tiled floors. But he said that he prefers that i keep them because they serve as a protective layer for the pads...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
Oh ok... the whiskers..
The whiskers serve as sensors for the dog and help him get information about his surroundings..
They have a couple of those on each side of the face but when his facial fur grows they disappear.. no need to trim.

Re: Does Your Chow "Hunt"?
@vette64 All of the chowchows working capabilities are mentioned on the internet in the 'History' section. (websites not social platforms) And that history goes way before they were even called chowchows and known to the world. And as a personal opinion, modern chows are basically ruined in terms of...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
I don't ask for a trim, but they usually trim the hair just below my male's anus for hygienic purposes.. so you can ask for that if you want. But i do not see that this is actually needed since i have never trimmed any hair from my females' fur... And she is always clean down there. They manage to d...

Re: arghhhhhhhh!
This is so funny since ive been through this last winter... It starts with a pee per day.. and then the carpets will become their preferred peeing place, and later pooping place.... I do not know if this is feasible for you at this moment, but i suggest one of two things: 1- Confine the dogs whithin...

Re: Head & Shoulders or Nizoral for itchy skin?
Hello again, i have been to another vet and just like the 1st one he said the skin is not infected and he recommended some long lasting antihistamines (or other stuff) shot... but i refused... (I talked to the 1st vet again and he just said that, this will be your life with chowchows and you have to...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
I use a similar blower (650watts) plus a regular philips hair dryer set on the lowest heat option simultaneously. I get help from whoever is available to hold the second dryer, since also as rory's dad said, i brush during the drying process... My female pup is on the smaller side of chowchows, and ...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
I forgot to mention that after bathing you should completely dry him with a strong blow dryer, if you leave him a bit wet to dry out in the sun, his tangles will get much much worse. The blow dryer should have a slightly warm temperature.. And you should be prepared for a loooong process... :D My 7 ...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
Sorry yes i meant the comb.. the slicker brush will surely fix most of the tangles if not all.. since it will reach deep down into the undercoat. You have to separate the hair with your hand and brush it bit by bit... it will take you around 30mins or 40mins... If you still find tangles, i suggest b...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
Hi kevin,
As i mentioned above the pin brush will get stuck in the hair even if it is looking perfect.
I suggest you try the slicker brush. The smaller pins will get through anything.

Re: Head & Shoulders or Nizoral for itchy skin?
I took her for a check up today, she has an infected ear.. the vet said that her skin is not infected so it is possible that she is scratching because of her ear, or out of boredom.. In all cases, i will check for similar products to those mentioned above and give it a try. Sent from my SM-N920C usi...

Re: Training Suggestions Needed for my Chow
Making the decision was actually the hardest part... As you already know, sitting with a chowchow will attract enough attention to keep you entertained for hours... I ended up everyday returning home tired of saying that "yes this a dog" and politely laughing at the typical lion joke, and ...

Re: Head & Shoulders or Nizoral for itchy skin?
Hi Cindy thank you for the info!
They also seem to ship to my country.
But i'm worried this would cost me alot to ship plus taxes.
Based on my experience with shipping to my country, i will end up paying a total of 60 to 70$ for the shampoo

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
The pink one is the comb. As Rory's dad said this needs a spray to work well. He is more experienced with these since he is involved in dog shows. Without sprays or conditionners, i am able to use the comb for a week or two after bathing because that is when the hair is he softest. But after that it...

Re: Training Suggestions Needed for my Chow
Hahaha Rory's dad i can relate to the treats in the pocket thing. My dogs do the same. My reply is a bit late but here it goes. I had the exact same problem with lack of attention during walks. My male chow didnt even take any treats from me and he didnt listen at all. As he kept sniffing everything...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
The slicker brush's main purpose is for deshedding, but since the pins are very small they are very effective at removing dirt and detangling. 1 other brush i use is similar to the one you have with long pins but in the form of a glove. Same job as the one you have. And the 3rd.. i dont actually rec...

Head & Shoulders or Nizoral for itchy skin?
Hello, One of my dogs, a 7 months old chowchow pup has had food allergies since she was 4 months old. After changing 3 brands of dry foods, i am now feeding her Taste of the Wild pacific stream puppy (Salmon formula). And i am willing to continue with her current food since this is the best in the m...

Re: What brushes to use in grooming hair of Chows
Hi Kevin, i generally use 3 types of brushes but the most effective and the easiest for untangling is the slicker brush. Make your dog sit, then push all his beard up towards his face and brush down the hair bit by bit, making sure that you are reaching down to the skin. And that is after drying the...
