Re: Hair loss 2 year old black bitch
Seems like a fungus issue. Check with your vet just to make sure. What helped Chestnut was dog wipes with ketoconazole and chlorhexidine. I use Mal-A-Ket or Keto C. I get them from amazon. It degreases the area and kills off fungus and bacteria. I apply once a day then hair starts growing back on th...

Re: My 1 year old Chow has been dealing with anxiety. HELP!
Dogs often know or sense things that we do not. There must be something off with the groomer or a bad trigger for your baby. Better safe than sorry. Either change groomers or go back to his previous one. Observe his behavior. He might be in some pain or have a fever.

Re: Should I get chow chow?
Brisco, its harder for a dog to end up in a shelter because of your numerous maybes. Your dogs CHOSE to stay outside they were not limited there. You got a Chow even if your wife didn't want a dog? It's your house too so you can do what you want. NO9 has to abide by Her or his parent's rules. My con...

Your baby looks like a rough to me. At 8 weeks their fur won't be so long yet but it will shag up in the twelve week mark

Yes. He looks purebred to me. Of course only a DNA test will say for sure but I have seen lots of pure bred ones and he looks like some of them. Do not get hung up on the tongue. Others take a long time to fully darken.

My girl was the same. We finally settled for limited ingredient diet in her adulthood. On her third year I discovered Petcurean's Go natural sensitivity and Shine's turkey recipe and Venison Recipe. They are both grain and potato free so no more hotspots. She has a fungal yeast problem though which ...

Awww thank you BenjiChow. Luckily, glucosamine chondroitin was all she needed to stop the limping and Morning stiffness. She walks normally now after 20 days of taking the supplement.

Re: Should I get chow chow?
Do not get a dog just yet. The red flag is that your parents don't want a dog inside the house. Another is that it is your first pet. This means you are all alone in this and will get no support from your parents. In this scenario the dog ends up being rehomed or dumped in shelters when your other r...

Re: Chow Chow hotspots and hair care questions
You know what worked with my Chow's démodéx mange and hotspots which turned out to be caused by a fungus issue due to her compromised immune system? Shampoo with Ketoconazole and Chlorhexidine. You have to commit to using this once a week though. I got mine through Amazon or Allivet. I also get the ...

Re: Neuter my 6 months Chow or Not. Need opinions!!
Chestnut has had 2 heat cycles by the time she was 10 months old. We had her neutered then. Our vet wanted to do it earlier 5 months but we went for a second opinion. We were told not earlier than 8 months. Then we find out later on for chows we should have waited till 16 months for growth plate rea...

I am so happy I could cry . Your home and family was really the right one for her. A three year old Chow is usually set in their ways but your household had the perfect formula. She feels secure and part of a pack now. Such a beautiful and elegant cream girl.

Re: Cream chow chow nose colour
It is normal for cream chows noses to turn pink as they grow into adulthood. If you notice even their paw pads and whiskers are pink or light colored. Cream chows lack pigment hence their coloring. It is very rare for a cream chow to retain the dark nose they are born with. Your baby does not have a...

Re: HELP! First time Chow Mommy
This poor baby was displaced that is why she is feeling a bit lost and insecure. Chows are a one master dog. They may love the whole family but their undying loyalty will be to one. She probably bonded with her previous owner then they 'betrayed' her by giving her away. She is not yet sure if she sh...

Re: Help Cereal free diet ?? How much protein ??
Royal canin and Science Diet never worked for Chestnut. The heavy grain gave her so much yeasty skin problems. He poop was also a lot, too often and too yellow. she was not absorbing anything. Give her crude protein a minimum of 28% and fat about 15-17% maybe. I tried Orijen Puppy Large Breed until ...

Re: Lab/Chow Mix - Will he act chow?
There are so many possible reasons that Chow you personally know attacked another dog and it's owner. It could have sensed a threat or maybe your friend did not socialize him/her enough. With dogs you never know what you are going to get. My 100% Chow is a submissive. Reading sweetpea's post makes m...

OMG! Kodi is sooo handsome. A huge boy too. 25 at the shoulder? Wow! What age could you no longer carry him? I gave up on Chestnut at 7 months. I thought my armpits would rip! She is 20 inches and 70 lbs now. About 35-40 then. Will hunt for Taste of the Wild to add to the rotation. Which Variant do ...

Hi Mother Moose! So sorry for the late reply. If he loves the food and does well on it. Keep him on it. It is okay to try other food though. You can do rotation. When Moose is done with that bag try a different brand like Canidae Pure line, Acana or Go!

Re: 2 puppies, should I feed big one more?
My chestnut was the biggest in her litter of 4 girls. When her siblings would abandon their food because they have had enough, she would scavenge their bowls and munch on their leftovers. She was never put into the feeding area first because she would chow down two servings by the time the others we...

I know someone who lives in midlevels HK. He or the Chow nanny (funny but true) walked the dog with a golf umbrella during rain storms. Then they would rush home with a towel on the floor by the doorway sprayed with Chlorhexidine so Adonis would wipe his paws on it then they dry his paws and legs fu...

The addition to Lab in his genetic make-up can actually be a good thing for you. Mixed breed dogs are stronger and less prone to genetic defects and sickness. Their immune system will also be better. Chow Chow's are prone to hip/elbow dysplasia, eye entroption, hot spots, demodex mange and fungal in...
