Re: Entropian in 6month old
The operation he is most likely referring to is a tacking operation which is done in puppies to atleast allievate the discomfort while the dog grows... Yes your dog may outgrow the condition but would you want your eyelashes scratching the surface of your eyeball for however long it takes? And I wou...

Re: help please...
You need to get her back to any vet ASAP, puppys dehydrate very quickly and electrolytes are lost through watery stools. Especially if she's not eating she will most likely need to be placed on a drip and her condition stabilized and the vet can also investigate the cause while she is there.

Re: Insurance help?
Premiums look scary but myself personally having a year old puppy nearly slice her pad off AND get ear infections both in the same year which would of cost us our premium plus for 70 quid each claim you can't really complain. The insurance meant she could have all her bandage changes covered and her...

Re: Zoe will not eat her dog food...
I would take a good bet on the chicken causing the problem, especially if shes eating that well but refusing to eat the dog food. I would try a mixer diet, tastes and smells nicer for the dog and is more appealing for a lot of dogs as its not like eating a bowl of dry cereal, perhaps drop a little b...

Just adding on - Noticed from your profile that you're from Canada, the procedures there from what I know are a lot different, I remember seeing a tv programme where a dog was being castrated under just sedation once, nasty

Re: What happens to the Puppies not adopted?
Ive been done back in the day many breeders used to drown dogs that were born with undesirable qualities. I hope this doesn't still happen but I think luckily in the UK chow chows aren't usually found in huge quantities and specalist rescues exist

Thats good news! Might well of been an AWOL testicle but seeing as you said you could feel two decended made me think differently! Bring it up on his appointment and they might be able to shed light on it abit more as there are glands around the inguinal area

Re: different types of chows
The loner the faces and fewer wrinkles yield to fewer problems with eye health problems...Plus, breathing is alot easier..We have both in our pack.. I was just thinking the more open faces variety should have less problems eye wise. I'm co-mummy to a black chow with the more open face. Interesting ...

Re:
keep a bag of cotton balls in near your emergency supplies. Should your pet ingest a sharp object ex: christmas tree ornament, soak about 20 cotton balls in cream or milk and have them eat them. The cotton balls will wrap around the sharp object in the stomach. Take your dog to the vet, and let the...

My problem with using a sedative on a dog, (or cat) for a routine checkup is that if the animal is sedated how can unknown things be found on palpatation? I knew Darkwind was limping some, but couldn't tell if it was his wrist, elbow or shoulder, the Vet had to manipulate the limb and get him to re...

Anesthesia - What happens
Hi guys My name is Hayley and I am a student veterinary nurse from RVC, England. I am troubled by the ammount of anesthesia posts I see on this forum and would like to try and put a reassuring 'guide' to what happens when your dog goes in for surgery. This will be a general overview of a more routin...

Re: Small lump on puppy's lower abdomen
Testes pass down the inguinal canals and these run closer towards the dogs back, would be very unusual to be on his belly like that, is the lump soft? Mobile?

Re: Chow and Aneasthesia
I know this is an old thread but came up doing a google search. Anaesthesia is started using an induction agent administered intravenously usually in England alfaxan or vetofol (spellings might be wrong) and is mantained via a gas administered through a tube in the trachea which I've never seen them...
