Re: Questions from a potential owner...

We adopted a female 6yr old chow a few months ago and were worried about how dog and cat would survive together in a small apartment. After some hissing and chasing...a week or so, now they actually instigate play together (still hissing and chasing ;-). The cat runs and hides and the dog chases and...

Poo butt

Hi all and Happy New Year! A few months ago we adopted my mother-in-law's female chow after she passed away. I am happy to say Angel is doing great and we love this dog!! She is smart and well mannered...except for doing anything concerning her face or butt. We learned quickly to muzzle her to give ...

Re: New owner of old Chow Chow

I agree with the good advice above. It worked for us after my mother-in-law died and her 7 yr. old chow "adopted" us. At first she would only bark at us and back away if we tried to approach her. I was advised to try to mimick some familiar patterns so I sat in my MIL's chair, eyes averted...

Re: Following me everywhere

Thanks for all the comments. Angel seems to have "adopted" my husband and myself as her new owners. She's a loving dog and is learning quickly. We tackled the mats on her hind quarters yesterday and managed to get the biggest ones cut out. She'd not been brushed regularly for a long time. ...

Following me everywhere

My newly adopted female chow Angel follows me room to room. Granted, we are in "her" house since my mother-in-law died. She does not seem anxions, just follows us as we go about sorting things. If we get up and go to another room, she follows every time. What does this behaviour mean?

Re: Need help with adopted female Chow

Angel is responding to brushing, walking and generally being around more people. But, now we need to take her back to TN in order to keep her. How can I get her into the car? She will come near the car, doesn't seem anxious, but will not come into the car.

Re: Need help with adopted female Chow

Thanks, that sounds like a great plan. We did brush her yesterday and she seems to really like it. Tons of hair came out. But, she does not like us coming near her tail and hindquarters, and of course that's where the worst matts are. We will keep brushing several times a day, as she seems to enjoy ...

Need help with adopted female Chow

My mother died and we are adopting her female chow named Angel. She has taken to us (my husband and myself) and now we need to groom/wash her. Her coat is severely matted and dirty. We don't want to frighten her, but need to wash and groom her. Any suggestions about how to begin and whether to shave...
