Re: Chow Breeder ?
I checked out the Intatto web site and their contracts for both pet and show dogs are over board and really are in Intatto best interest. What surprised me the most is if a dog that is bought for a pet fathers even by accident they are going to sue you for 3000 dollars for each puppy, plus you pay a...

Sounds like you have a very nice chow that most people would love to have. Most chows only come get you when they need something.

Re: Chow Breeder ?
No I don't but I met someone who lives by me that has bought 3 chows from Rossy Shagoi-Chen chow chow kennel from Hungary. I read somewhere their nose pigment stays black on the cream chows longer but it's best to show them when they are young if is lightens up. Their last puppy is a female and is 7...

Brutus does it all the time. I think it's in all chows dna. I think it's funny and wish I knew what he was thinking? Probably just likes the cool tile in the entry way but likes to keep an eye on us.

Re: need help getting my chow chow puppy to listen to me.
Are you talking about an electronic training collar? Those have been known to fail on a chow especially if used to often. Chows are stoic and very stuborn by nature and will just ignore the slight pain of the electric shock if they are really into what they are doing. I know for certified fact that...

Re: need help getting my chow chow puppy to listen to me.
The only way safely to stop any dog from bolting when out is to use a training collar. That way if he decides to bolt you have a back up. Plus then they get use of being out of the fence area or off leash. I use my train collar only for the recall command because everything else can be done in the f...

Fence Or No Fence
I'm just wondering how many have a fence yard for their chows. We have had chows for 20 years but only a fence for the last 10 years. At first we found it to be a lot easier to let them out but after raising Brutus from 8 weeks old I thinking it way more healthy. Younger chows run around a lot more ...

Don't worry about how much he weighs. The slower chows grow the better. You should be more concerned about socializing him and making him use to being groomed and his nails done. Enjoy your puppy because they grow fast.

Re: Showing
First search for dog trainers in your area that have conformation classes. They are usually group classes that are between$5-$10 per session. They will show you how to square up your dog and touch your dog like judges would. Then go to a couple of shows and maybe enter a b match first at one of the ...

Re: Brutus Best Of Winners
Thanks for everyone's support. Brutus is still just over 1 year old and we have along ways to go. Like I said before we show Brutus to socialize him first and to see other great chows in the process. We have see both GCH CH Josol's Titan and GCH CH IMAGINE LOVE'S SECOND CHANCE. They were very amazin...

Brutus Best Of Winners
There aren't many Chows around that show so getting points are hard. But last weekend he finally had a chance and did get his first point as best of winners. We are still learning as we go but he is a natural.

Re: Is this the "awkward stage"?
The key to bathing is rinsing out all the shampoo and conditioner out. Then one more rinse and drying with a blower dryer with no heat. The shampoo and conditioner should be diluted at least 50/50 and up to 1 to 8 parts of water. That are the keys for dogs that are bathed weekly for dog shows. Plus ...

Re: 2nd Chow thoughts
We got some flack in the show world because we show Rory, and he was considered the 5th pup in the litter. I never heard that one. Are the registration number given by the order of birth or the order in which they are picked up? Also, are they just messing with you or do they think the order in whi...

Re: 2nd Chow thoughts
Have you thought about getting a female chow puppy? Male and a female are a better fit . Males won't fight females as far as I know. You also will be able to always show them in different classes at shows. If you get a female that has different parents you could later if you wish breed them. That's ...

Re: Squat or leg lift?
Brutus was 10 months old when he started to lift his leg. We believe he learned it at doggie camp when we on vacation with the boys there. Our female boxer still is the dominate one and even humps Brutus. The good thing about this is we can lay Brutus on his side or back anytime to brush him and he ...

Re: Looking to buy a Chow, Best breeder?
Keep looking on Chow Chow Inc, breeder directory. Some are better than others but Cross B Chows in Kansas with Janet Burke is great place to start. I think adopting any dog is good but maybe not for chows and first time owners. We adopted a 1 1/2 year female boxer 3 years ago to keep our previous ch...

Re: Odd World of Dog Shows
Rory's Dad, It takes a lot longer than eveyone thinks to blow their puppy fur. Our Brutus adult fur has been coming in for at least 2 months. It started on his back a few hairs at a time. Now his back/face are really red and much longer that his puppy coat use to be. His neck, sides and rear are sta...

Re: Odd World of Dog Shows
Don't let others spoil the fun you guys are having. Tell your breeder to enter the shows if they think that way. That might give you enough dogs for a earn a major. Someone just told me today that if you go to the shows and don't see those weird dog show people anymore, that's because you have becom...

Re: Why does every one think my chow is mixed?
Sometimes photos on phones aren't the best. That especially true outside even with smart phones but really bad with the older phones. Chows come in different sizes, colors and shapes. Some people only like 1 type and think others are inferior. I don't know this for sure but think the close face chow...

Re: Couch potato or floor rug?
We never let our dogs on the furniture or bathrooms. We call it the no fur zone areas because the floors are hard enough to keep clean. My wife and I agreed along time ago the no black chows either. The reason why is you can see black fur a lot easier that others and it would gross us out see it eve...

Re: Which Collar?
We've always used a thick flat collar but you made me think about getting a roll collars next time we go to the pet store. I believe harnesses are made so your dog can pull. I don't want my dogs to pull so I think I stay away from them. Think of it if you had a horse and you want to control him. The...

Very nice photo and I bet you'll make a few copies and will frame that one. You might want to consider editing your user name, maybe Rory's Proud Dad. The problem we are having is finding shows that have any chows to bring Brutus to. We were going to enter a show close to us that usually has 5-10 ch...

He did great but the best is still to come. Soon his adult fur will start coming in and you will enjoy that. You guys are certainly doing it right with picking one of the best handlers. What most people don't understand is showing a chow with 2500 dogs and about that many people is one of the best t...

Re: Neutering
I'll say don't neuter your boy if you vet doesn't say it necessary. Letting him grow up will give you more time to decide if you want to show him and will make your boyfriend happy. I also think his testosterone will make his muscles and ligaments grow stronger. Our Brutus hardly humps anything and ...
