Does Your Chow Frog Dog???
Here is Brutus frog dogging, he has always done it but mostly does it when he's really happy. Our last chow only stuck out 1 leg and our first didn't stick out any. Just wondering how common it is with others on here.

Re: Imperial Dreams Chows - Good Breeder?
I have never heard of them but always like to learn more about who's breeding and showing chows. And of course how long too. I checked their web site along with their dogs pedigrees on Chow Chow Inc. The stud is from Cross B's Chows and looks a lot like all of Janet Burke's dogs. She has been breedi...

Re: chows as sloppy drinkers
The water bowl for our dogs are in the laundry room with a big rug underneath it. We really don't like getting wet socks or wiping up all the time and this has be the best solution. Plus it's right by the sink for water.

Re: A Run for My Money!
I stand by my comment "most chow owners are lazy". Most people with chows have them on a leash and then tie them up and only for a small amount of time attempt to train them to come. If they do, they do it for the first few months and then quit. I think chows best time to teach them are wh...

Re: Halloween, 2012
Victory and Kai/Hanna, we are very close and live in Saint Michael . That's about 20 miles northwest of you in Brooklyn Center. Yes, there are many outdoor things a person could take their chow to in the spring/summer or fall around here. But dog shows have people and between 800 to 1800 dogs. Plus ...

Re: Halloween, 2012
We too had a baby gate between the front and the storm door. Over 200 kids tonight but Brutus was calm as ever. Trotting up to the gate to see the kids when they came. But after a while he just laid by the door. I'm beginning to think all chows should be shown from 6 months to 1 and a half just for ...

Re: A Run for My Money!
I think you have to put the time into it to get results. Age or not trying shouldn't be a reason. Lexi our boxer was adopted too and use to bolt if she was loose. She was 2 years old but now she doesn't because I put the time into it.

I'm not saying recall always works but think most chow owners are lazy when it comes to training them to come.

Re: A Run for My Money!
My opinion is that the recall comand is the most important all chows should be taught first. I don't care with sit and lay down. Brutus knows how to stay because we show him but if we didn't then only after the come comand . Brutus' is our third chow and the first 2 couldn't be trusted off the leash...

Brutus and Lexi after I cleaned up the leaves. I should of took the picture before but at least you see the last tree with leaves in our yard. Brutus loves the cooler temps and doesn't want to stay in the house long. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk232/ottertailguy/80DAD052-686A-4D56-AA11-8E5E6...

Re: Hello Group....New Member
Ursa's daddy, I think that you being an advocate of rescued chows is really great. I'm relative new to this site and really didn't know that there were that many of them. But if some has a very nice chow and wants to breed her/him they shouldn't be attacked by everyone. I was tired of other reasons ...

Re: Hello Group....New Member
First welcome to our site. I'll play devils advocate and say if you want to breed her then do it and enjoy it. Most people here that say you must have the dogs tested, didn't buy from tested dogs. In the ideal world that would be the case but that will never happen. If every dog was tested the price...

Re: Chow pup having trouble getting up.....
Chows are a unique breed in that when puppies grow their rear legs lose their flexibility and become stiff resulting in a stilted gait. Google " stilted gait & chows" and it will help see what it is. In the show ring chows are walked unlike other dogs because the judge wants to see the...

Re: Chow pup having trouble getting up.....
Occasionally a chow will start to limp on their rear leg/legs during the 'lock down phase' when the rear legs stiffen up at about 6 -10 months old. Try not to walk so far and not on hard pavement. Take it easy on him through this phase.

Re: Can u feed chows just biscuits
I feed our boxer Royal Canin for boxers which is a 3 1/2 star food but mostly because boxer passes gas because they inhale air when they eat. It is shape like packing peanuts to help with the gas problem. It works great and no more gas. For Brutus we feed Nutro Ultra Large Breed which is rated as a ...

Re: Can u feed chows just biscuits
Yes it's about a 3 star dog food out of 5. I like using 3 or 4 star dog food because of the price and the ease of getting it. But again you have to make sure it a good fit for your dog. All you have to google something like " best dry dog food reviews" and you can find out yourself what is...

Re: Can u feed chows just biscuits
Brutus eats only dry food and it is out 24/7. He eats more some days that others but I don't worry about it. That's because I know that's how chows are. I worry more about how firm his stool is and how much he goes. I buy high quality food but you still have to find the best fit for your dog.

Good job on the reserve, it shows he belongs. Four days showing is a long time. I bet you guys are tired and glad to be home. I learn things every time we show and the last show was Brutus's bite. I now say "teeth" and practice it once a day. We were in groups the last show and he pulled b...

And yes we use Petco for the pre-show grooming routine. But he always gets to his handler a day ahead of the show (kudo's to you for showing yourself, we just dont have the confidence to do it). She has actually suggested using a towel to 'train down' his tail, and thinks his butt is getting too fl...
