Re: Almost There...
You do need alot more dogs to get a major out east than here in the midwest. As far as the rules to get points, they are on the AKC site and I find that they are very easy to understand after you read them a couple of times. Brutus has gotten a point when he was the only male but with 2 females at t...

Re: Almost There...
Clover, Rory will be in W. Springfield next weekend, but only one other Chow entered. This will be a practice run for him with no points at stake. Counting points takes awhile to figure it out but I checked on Infodog and the other entry is a Champion female so Rory could win a point each day if sh...

Re: Almost There...
Both puppies look very nice. It would be hard for me to not pick the red one because that what I like. I just love chow puppies with a black mask, even though they almost always fade away as they grow older. Either way you go I'm sure you're going to get a wonderful puppy.

Victory, I drive for ups and deliver in the Crystal/New Hope area which is very close to you. If I can do anything just ask and I'll do what I can. That being said its been very cold the last couple of days around here, not above 0 either day. But those pkgs must get delivered and Brutus stayed out ...

Re: Growing hair!
My opinion is that your groomer is right about taking 1-2 years to lose her puppy fur. Our Brutus is 20 months old and his puppy fur took all of 18 months. I didn't know that wide collars could cause their hair to break around their ruff. Brutus has always had one on but since we have a fence yard I...

Re: Lily at 9 weeks
Just a few days ago there was a blog about a growing up puppy biting their owners and destroying furnitures. Then we had a blog about a puppy peeing all over the house. Now you guys are having this little black fur ball doing it all right. Same breed, same age, different owners  I wonder if it...

We have a Dyson ball that we got about 7 years ago using a 30% coupon from the store Bed, Bath and Beyond. They closed their doors along time ago but the Dyson has been very good. We also have 2 hoover wind tunnels, a newer one that is baggless and has an auto cord rewind and a 20 year old one that ...

Congrats to you and your family. I know you were thinking about another male because that's what you've always had. What changed your mind? I think you guys are really going to enjoy having a girl chow in your house. And of course Rory too.

Re: Poo butt
My last 2 chow I never cut their fur unless it matted up. But Brutus we show him and everyone I've seen do trim the rear for two reasons. It makes them seem more square and it looks neater. If I could go back I would trim my previous chows rears but since I can't go back I'll spread the word it's ok...

Re: Puppy mills in SoCal?
Victory-- Brutus does seem to like the cold too. Soon after I call him in he wants back out. This morning it's -11 degrees and he's acting the same way. Just so the snow is packed down and can't get between the toes all of my chows have enjoyed the cold. But i do keep an eye on them and don't let th...

Re: Puppy mills in SoCal?
Our Brutus came from a breeder with many many many years of raising chows. He's perfect and is the direct result of all the people and their time devoted to the chow breed. Our boxer Lexi was adopted and we were her 4th home. She has her quirks with other female dogs , jealousy, and separation anxie...

Very nice video of everyone getting along and having fun on Christmas. Toys can be tough for dogs to share especially new ones. Job well done.

Chows do love the snow, that's for sure. If we are any closer you can bring Ty here to play also. Brutus has a big enough yard with plenty of that white stuff. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk232/ottertailguy/001E31C8-248F-4CBB-A2C9-F506D98FA0C3-832-00000143A00B10F0.jpg http://i281.photobucket....

Re: Socialization
Take your chow out to as many public areas where people are and let them pet him. Trying to make each experience a positive one. Treats are never a bad idea either. Any train class is good too because there are people and other dogs. You might have to take it slower at first but chows like to go for...

Re: Grooming Tools HELP!!
Do you have a grooming table and/or a high volume dryer. The grooming table can be just a 2x4 foot white plastic table from Sam's club with a yoga mat on it or a professional one with a arm to help hold the dog while you groom them. As for the dryer, it's a must tool that I am wondering why I didn't...

Re: Looking for a healthy chow puppy
You are doing it right by waiting to find out the do's and don't about buying a chow puppy. Most people who are in the market for a puppy will buy the first one they see. As others have said there is no guarantees with health. If so then what should you look for? Experience breeder and temperament o...

Re: Introducing an older chow male to my only female
I agree with everything Boogie and Linda said but would add getting a male is the best fit because males dogs will not fight with a female dog. Our chow Brutus is dominated by our female boxer Lexi and is the sweetest dog possible. They truly love each others company even though they are so differen...

Victory, I remember reading this thread but kinda thought you found work along time ago. Congratulations on finding employment as many people have gone through tough times in the past years. I believe true character is shown through bad times not good times, That being said, yours is great.

Re: is my chow chow going to get any bigger?
First, don't worry how big she will get. Our Brutus was 48 lbs at 9 months and is 55 lbs now at 1 1/2. He will be over 60 for sure and am glad he is no bigger. When he was a puppy I worried how big he was going to get too because he was a slow grower. Some grow faster than others but was told by a b...

karenmarie- That's for your comments of Brutus, he really doesn't know how handsome he is and really is the sweetest chow to anyone he meets. I see you are in Iowa, where? We are in Minnesota.
chowpups- glad to see yours pictures, she looks happy.
Everyone else- Lets see your frog dog pictures.

Re: Whats up with the National dog show?
I was surprised mostly with only 3 chows entered. We have shown Brutus this year and have a learned a ton along with had a blast. Brutus was only 7 months old when we started and now 1 1/2. He has grown up a lot but will get even better as he fills in and his coat comes in all the way. I love keepin...

Re: Does Your Chow Frog Dog???
I was concerned when Brutus first did it as a puppy but saw online the dad of Martha Stewart dog 1-800-Hot-Stuff doing it on Facebook. I figured if that breeder thought it was ok then I shouldn't worry. I've heard it may be a sign of good hips but can understand that it puts a dog in a bad position....

Re: Does Your Chow Frog Dog???
Brutus does it mostly after running around the back yard with Lexi. Then he will lay on the tile floor to cool as Victory said. But chewing on a nylon bone as shown in the picture above he likes that rug.
