Re: Is he a small ChowChow ?
I would consider your chow on the small side. I have a boy that sits at about 45 pounds and I consider him small compared to others. My girl chow towers over him.

Re: Gently taking a treat
My little girl is a angel when it comes to treats. She knows it is not hers until I personally give it to her. I can put chips "her favorite" right on my leg in front of her mouth and she wont touch it till I hand it to her. Then she puts the least amount of pressure possible on the treat....

Re: Can't take off leash
My chows are GREAT off leash. I take them on walks daily that way and never have a problem. Then again I sport dog collars just in case. It only takes one walk before they know not to run away from you. I haven't had to correct my dogs with it since the first day they went on a walk. Great investment.

hair loss.
My allie is having some serious problems. Not sure quite how to describe it but her hair is falling out in CHUNCKS. Mostly on the sides near the rear of her body. Its not a painful pull either. You can simply rub your hand through her hair and it will jsut come out in your hand. Its not like a sheed...

I live in texas and have 2 chows. If your dog is going to be a inside dog you should have no problems.. just make sure to get her or him water when you walk.

Re: Kicked out of puppy socialization....
At 5 months I wouldnt be to worried about it yet. Just continue to try the classes. Also try the dog park if you have one local, that will allow your pup to run with other little dogs. What really helped me was finding a friend that had two dogs. I would just allie there and drop her off for a 1-2 h...

Re: Dog Parks?
My chows love the dogpark. Allie could care less about the other dogs but loves the human interaction. She will chase some dogs but mostly she just loves smelling and walking around. Teddy can run for 1-2 hours straight without stopping. Its really crazy how fast he is for a chow.

Re: The One Drawback with Chows
Very strange. My chows need very little grooming except in the summer when I furminate them about twice a month. I give them a bath every 3-4 weeks and they air dry. When they get close to dry I simply use my metal comb behind their ears and we are good to go.

Re: eggs
I give my chows twice a week. They are high in protien and my dogs love them. I even crack up the egg shells and they eat them as well, they are high in calcium.

My girl allie even hunts the bugs in the back yard. If their is a rabbit she sees through the back door you can be rest assured that I am not sleeping that night.

Re: Male vs Female Chow
It must be the way they are raised because my male is hyper hyper hyper!!! He is almost a year and only 40 -42 pounds and cannot gain fat if he wanted to. My girl on the other hand is the same age 55 pounds and is rather lazy. She loves to pick fights with the male though... which she often wins bec...

Re: Alpha Male's
When I brought Teddy home at the age of 8 months he tried to be alpha male over out white girl chow. She is 55 pounds he is 40. Both were nine months. Lets just say it lasted about 2 seconds until allie had his little but pinned in the corner fearing for his life. She wouldn't let him move for about...

Re: Do your Chows get perky at night time..
Sounds like to me that you are experiencing puppy time! Every night around 1030 my babies GO NUTS. It doesnt matter how much they rested during the day, it is like a switch flips and they are OFF! It usually only last 20 minutes or so and you always know when its about bed time because they go on th...

Re: winston won't Come, he just runs away
Dog lovers on here will hate me because it sounds mean and cruel but I use a eCollar on my chows. I have a chow that I raised then one that we rescued. The one that we rescued was VERY VERY dominant and anytime the door would open he would be gone. 2 times this happened both resulted in my having to...
