Re: Violently Aggressive Chows.
I'm joining this late but wanted to mention we had a similar problem with our male/female sibs. They spatted alot and I was honestly starting to believe all the articles I read against raising sibs. But it gets better! Make sure you treat them both the same, because they are competitive. Ours are 3 ...

Re: Violently Aggressive Chows.
I'm answering late and I bet your problem is better by now. I have two siblings, boy and girl who used to fight often. They seemed to outgrow the problem and only fight rarely now, at 2-1/2 years. One thing I did was make sure I gave them equal attn as they are very attuned to this. I encourage them...

Re: Barking and chasing cars, people, dogs along invisible f
Thanks so much for your insight! I have taught them to sit and lay, but notice when they (mostly the male) get this frantic excitement it's doubly hard to make them stay sitting. They are ok on a harness and leash; however I know what you mean about the excitement. I have been making him sit when he...

Barking and chasing cars, people, dogs along invisible fence
I'd like to hear suggestions for stopping this behavior. The chows are in our large yard a lot, but are starting to scare passersby with their threatening behavior. Plus if they got out, I'd worry about being struck by a car or a lawsuit if someone is bitten. This behavior seems worse than before, a...

Re: Shaking Coat Communication

Shaking Coat Communication
Wondered what others have noticed with what is being communicated when my chow mix dogs shake their coats (other than when wet). It seems to be when they are excited about something, but there are other times I'm not so sure. Any others note this? It is a definite communication but wondered what oth...

Re: Crossing Invisible Fence for a Walk
Thank you for the tip--harnesses did the trick and they now go out a certain spot on the property.

Re: Frontline or ?
To follow up, I'm now trying a Scalibor flea/tick collar I bought at the vet's that I think is a healthier option for all of us. So far no reaction from the dogs.

Re: My chow puppy litter mates (boy & girl) are fighting fie
I have a similar situation with my male/female siblings (both spayed/neutered). In our case it seems the female is the dominant dog, and on many occasions growls and is aggressive toward her brother. I'm wondering if it stems from jealousy as the male is very close to me even though I give them both...

Crossing Invisible Fence for a Walk
My chow mixes refuse to cross the invisible fence line when I remove their collars to go for a walk, even though they are trained to the fence and I've tried using methods advised. The only way seems to be carrying them over the fence line. Wondered if anyone has any tricks or similar experiences.

Re: Please help my chow chow
My chow mix is getting over a hot spot that I tried many things on. The things that finally seemed to work are adding Missing Link supplement to his food along with using Dombro's solution to soak the spot with several times a day, then if it itches him, you should follow with Gold Bond powder. Thes...

Re: Frontline or ?
Just to note, in an effort to go the holistic route, I tried Sentry Natural Flea and Tick prevention with disastrous results! Had to bathe them immediately--my chow mixes cannot seem to tolerate oils on their skin. Has anyone else noticed this with chows?
