My two chow chow dogs are fighting badly
As an aside, it really is troubling to hear/read that Chows are "innately aggressive". Dominant, hardheaded maybe but that does not equal aggression. If Chowists continue using that terminology, no wonder the world thinks our breed are bad dogs.

10 week old pup is very aggressive
This reminds me of Lucy when she went from an adorable ball of fluff to a nipping maniac. I tried to deflect her when she attacked by giving her a toy to bite on and also the ouch/ignore technique. I totally agree that plenty of exercise (not rough games that encourages this behavior) plus patience ...

Re: Chow Victim of Stupidity
Thanks for asking! Seinfeld was rescued on the day he was to go to the kill shelter (Monday after Thanksgiving) because of the efforts of a couple of special people who kept on trying. He has been taken to a vet clinic for evaluation and neutering and should be good to go this Saturday (December 5)....

Chow Victim of Stupidity
Hello, all Those of you who know Chows will see how sad and unnecessary this situation is: (this boy is listed in the Chows needing homes section - his name is Seinfeld): Seinfeld is a beautiful 7-8 year purebred red Chow. He has a bright, happy bear face and a beautiful coat. (I cannot get his pict...

Re: Enjoying my "borrowed" Chow!
Hooray! Chachi has found a wonderful home with a woman in the Nashville area who lost her elderly Chow girl to cancer about a year ago. I visited her home yesterday - Chachi will have a huge fenced yard, a dog door, a big nice house to hang out in, and his guardian's bed to sleep in, if he wishes. T...

Enjoying my "borrowed" Chow!
Hello old friends! It has been nearly a year since Lucy has been gone and I continue to miss her in more ways than I imagined one could. I am fortunate, though, to have the company of a handsome, purebred red male Chow who was abandoned in Nashville by his family when they moved. He has a wonderful ...

Re: Lucy Heard
Thanks to Karen for posting Lucy's story and for all of your kind thoughts. I have just been looking at Jeff's little video and it makes me so happy to think of Lucy - her health and beauty restored - being greeted by the Chows we'll never forget and running and playing with them. We haven't had too...

Re: Happy Day, little Lucy.
Hi, everyone Thanks for thinking about Lucy and The Herd. Lucy is doing well with her pemphigus. She has regrown a gorgeous coat of shiny black fur, but oddly, has no undercoat. When her fur parts a bit, you can see right down to the skin. The top of her muzzle is still bare as are the tips of her e...

Lakota and Sampson
Hi, Everyone Long time, no post. I am the Susan with Silver Rescue - getting involved in rescue has taken me far afield from Chows and staying in touch with my Chow friends, but I just have to say what a thrill it was Saturday getting Lakota into the hands of her new family and Sampson into safe and...

Nashville Chow
Would the person who has been in contact with the owner please PM with any details you have - such as how long we have before it is too late? I cannot take her myself but am more than happy to do the legwork on this end to get her to safety and on to where she needs to be. Michael, if you are in the...

Happy Birthday, Lucy
Hello, Chowists! I wish I had time to get on the site more often. My 6-month old hoarding case is about to go to the DA, and if I outlive it and the 7 cats currently in my house, maybe I can join back in. Looks like you have had some fun and interesting topics lately. Today is Lucy's 9th birthday - ...

The summer of Chow love!
Hey, everyone! Great stills and video of CF07. Fabulous location, wonderful Chows, beautiful people. It made me cry a little to remember Lucy's "Chow look" that is now gone forever (she is doing much better, BTW)and laugh a lot to see Chows in party hats (who woulda thought?). I never saw ...

ATTENTION CHOW LOVERS...THIS BOY DESPERATELY NEEDS YOUR HELP
Buster's picture shows him to be a handsome golden color. Please contact Sara Mauck directly if you can help. I have no additional information. If you can't adopt, please consider bringing Buster to safety, getting him the medical care he needs, and fostering until he can find his forever home. Sara...

Photoshoot for Onyx
Thanks, everyone! We have some pictures of her but she is wet from her bath - not too flattering! I am waiting for better pictures soon. We will be posting her on petfinder.com with Silver Rescue of Nashville as soon as we do.

Onyx spends one of her Chow lives
Poor Onyx. No inquiries about adopting this sweet girl and already I've been contacted about a SECOND purebred black Chow girl (Princess) living as a stray in Nashville. Somehow we will find a way to bring her to safety. The day after Onyx had her bath, she was in her plumtree yard when one of the w...

Onyx takes a bath!
This is a story for all of you who dread giving your Chows a bath, and end up drenched with a trashed bathroom: Onyx is a 5-year old beautiful black girl - a purebred with a bear face. Her mistress was deployed to Afghanistan a year ago, so Onyx went to live with her grandparents who stuck her out i...

Another Nashville Chow Needs a Home
Hey, Chowists! I am working to find a home for another great Chow in Nashville. She is a mix, but looks like a smooth coat, so I thought you or someone you know might be interested. The link to her petfinder.com listing is http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=8463558 Lucy is hold...

Bear looks so much like my Lucy-Lu. I am so happy for him. When I got the email from the shelter and forwarded it to Karen, I didn't really think it would do much good. His days were numbered and there are so many out there... It is great to hear a happy ending. I am very much in the ugly part of a ...

Hi, Everybody Lucy had her follow up visit with the specialist today. Dr. now thinks she has phemphigus, not discoid lupus, because her entire body is affected, not just her nose as is normally the case with lupus. Lucy has lost most of her undercoat and has only her longer guard hairs and a lot of ...

Even if he can, why would you breed him?! To add to the numbers of Chows that are mistreated and/or die in shelters? Unless you are a professional breeder with a well-thought -out, written breeding plan whose goal it is to benefit the breed AND unless you plan to show your litter as a way of confirm...

I guess I'm going to have to be a contrarian here. I agree that this site is the source of real, not hysterical, information about Chows. However, everyone here is convinced that Chows are the best. There ARE some bad Chows - a result of greedy, ignorant breeders and stupid people Maybe you have one...

Chandler & Lucy
I enjoyed reading about your Lucy. Mine can from a terrible breeder when I was too ignorant to spot one. She was timid as a puppy and ID'd by a trainer I consulted early on that she was fear aggressive and could be dangerous. She was just 7 weeks when I got her, so I have to assume it was genetic. L...
