Re: Bad behavior of Walter
My first thought was I wonder how long your baby puppy is spending alone. I admit I didn't read all the posts but I did see 11 hours. I dont mean to be horrible but I refuse to sell puppies to people who were out the house longer than four to five hours a day. When mine went to a new home they were ...

Re: Hi Everyone!
Hello and welcome. It would be lovely to see some pics of Noah. :D I always crate train my chows as if nothing else it can be a lot less stressful for them if they ever have to stay overnight at the vets. I would go for the larger size then there is room for a food bowl and water dish. I started by ...

Re: Chronic Hot Spots
Two of the worst food allergens are chicken and beef. Corn, wheat, yeast and other grains can also be a problem so my suggestion would be to get Aslan onto a fish and sweet potato diet with no added ingredients that you dont know what they are. I use taste of the wild Pacific Stream because the prot...

Re: addicted to chow chow
Breeding rescue chows is never advisable but getting another chow for company is different. You should ask yourself who will look after an eight week old baby if you dont go for a rescue. They need to go outside at least once every four hours and need four feeds a day when that young. It is a lot of...

You have beautiful dogs and Riley is most definitely all chow and a very handsome chow too.

Re: Normal rate of hair regrowth
Hair regrowth depends on many things....the diet you are feeding now, the condition of the chow when you got him and what he has been through and most of all where he is in his hair growth cycle. Different types and areas of hair grow at different times. Unaltered females moult their entire undercoa...

Re: World's friendliest chow?
Izzie...my beautiful black girl below is the friendliest most chilled chow I know. She loves to come to the door when deliveries arrive and insists everyone should stroke her before they leave. She is a great ambassador for the breed. Isla and Bramble are both a bit more shy and hesitant about petti...

I think we can all relate to the sadness of saying goodbye. Even is we haven't had to do so yet it is heart breaking even thinking of it. I am so sorry to read your post. I know you got some extra time together but how ever long it is, it is never long enough. Run free Sheena and watch over your mom...

Re: Puppy aggressively bites ankles on every walk
Puppies bite, chew, nibble and hold everything as part of play, learning about the world and teething. My Bramble was horrendous as a baby but when she got her big teeth she stopped of her own free will. Distraction is the best way till they learn better and their teeth come in. Lots of rewards are ...

Re: Is it right for us? (Family with small child)
Whilst socialisation is absolutely key so is education and vigilance for your one year old. I have seen pictures of young kids playing with dogs...endlessly hugging them, poking them even riding on their backs and every bit of body language says the dog is nearing the end of its tether with what it ...

Re: Other breeds similar to Chow in temperament and behavior
I have only met one akita but he was almost identical to my chows in many of his mannerisms and likes....lying in doorways, hating wet grass, being quite aloof and very much a one woman dog but much more athletic than my girls. He was very stand offish with strangers but I treated him exactly ...

Re: Please help! Rescuing a Chow (mix?) in April
If at all possible it would be great if you could walk the two dogs together before he moves in with you. Walking together creates a kind of team spirit but gives a focus apart from each other so allows them to settle together but without the stress of being face to face. Slowly slowly as others hav...

Re: Really ticked off
Good breeders do not have 30 chows or call their kennel Cherub chows. This has puppy farm written all over it. Breeders who show and care and breed for health and to improve the breed would not call their kennel such a clearly enticing name. Walk away folks from places like this. Breeding chows shou...

Re: 3 Chow Chow females a recipe for disaster?
Our three girls (all chows) got along perfectly till about a year ago when Bramble and Isla began to argue and then to fight to the point that Bramble put Isla in the vets several times even though we took great care with pack leader etc and they were all well trained. I always said it would not hap...

He struggled so long and valiantly. You did the only thing you could do and Jazz knew he was so loved. Sending hugs and strengt...

Re: Does Anyone Let Their Chow Walk Without a Leash?
Bramble (my red chow) goes off leash in parks and out of the way of roads but anywhere with houses and cars she goes firmly on her leash. Izzie my black never ever!!! Isla would probably go off leash and I will experiment soon to see but mostly our chows walk where there are either sheep or rabbits ...

Socialisation and tiny treats from everyone you meet will certainly help and positive training puppy classes are good too. I am su...

I am so impressed that you have made these huge changes to accommodate a puppy Like I said I thought you would make fantastic chow owners and I think think that even more so now If I can help with puppy finding PM me I know of one or two available at the moment.
