Re: food
Yes dogs can digest grains or any for of plant material for that matter. The reason being is because of the plants cell wall (or cellulose). However, once the cell wall is broken down (mainly by the way of cooking) then the nutrients of the cell wall can be assimilated. Naturally a dog can't digest ...

Re: Food suggestions?
You can try Taste of the Wild. The ingredient list is very good and I have tried it and my dogs seems to like it. Also it is sold at a very reasonable price.

Re: How to groom?
What I would normally recommend for grooming a Chow Chow would be a pin brush, slicker brush, greyhound style comb, thinning shears, and shears. What I generally do in a nut shell. I make sure line brush the dog with the pin brush making sure catching the areas prone to matting. Then I follow with t...

Re: Avoid red meat???
Had to go and look it up but I Know I came across something that may assist you, but not really answer your question. Okay, I do recommend that you try and see if you can get your breeder's reason. It maybe because her dog's may have not done well on it. I am assuming that you are feeding your dog a...

chicken based foods do not cause hot spots. It just depends on if your dog has allergies. One thing that i founf helpful in selecting a dog food is this.

@ DaniDoodlez
It is going to grow back, its just hair. However the mane is the longest set of hair so it is going to take a good while.

Re: petco mistakenly SHAVED my chow chow!
@jacks920 It is generally a matter of preference. I find that Andis is pretty good. I have bought the Oster Power Max (which I only got because of its looks, but it was very good aswell). If you check out PetEdge.com, you would find that they have a wide variety of models for Andis. One thing to kee...

Re: petco mistakenly SHAVED my chow chow!
No chows are suppose to be shaved. Its due to the coat type for some reason unlike a Shih Tzu or Maltese when their coat grows back it is aye okay. However, for a chow if you cut it kinda low it takes time to grow back it come in patchy in most cases. It can become even worst if the dog gets sun bur...

Re: petco mistakenly SHAVED my chow chow!
Sorry to here that the two of you got your Chows shaved before. With the hair growing back that is going to take some time. I had to trim an area on my Chow because he got in a fight and had 2 bite wounds on his back. It took atleast 4 months before it started blending in, however still noticeable. ...

Re: New Groomer, Buddha got sick!
I highly doubt that he is got sick in a matter of hours. No matter what type of virus or bacteria that could have been picked up, it doesn't affect no animal or humans for that matter in a case of hours. It just possibly could have been smothing that he ate and it didn't agree with his stomach[ or ...

Before I post what I have to say. I would love to have this set on a nuetral plain and not have this as an argumentative topic. To the moderator (I am not to sure that I am in the position), if you notice that this may become a troublesome thread, I am asking that you lock it please. I would just l...

Well the good thing about a Chow is that they aren't like most dogs that need to be attached to your hip. So working long hours shouldn't be a problem. As once there is is someone to take sufficient time with them and care for them in every aspect of both physical and mental. Seeing that there'll b...

I do grooming and i don't recommend shaving of any spitz breeds. Cutting the hair wouldn't make a difference when it comes to getting the shampoo to penetrate. Its actually the person and how he does it. Also there are shampoos that are specifically formulated for sensite skin aswell, so you may wa...

Just the other day a woman called into the clinic and said that her Pit Bull got stolen. She said that her son was walking the dog when a car passed by. Then it passed again. They then came out of the cloud and took the dog (not puppy) and sped off. These people getting really bold, I thank God Kri...

Well I am sorry that I missed the several days of conversation. I had to tend to my own dogs. Well I noticed that picture and had to look several times, to see if that was even a Chow. Well, if i am not mistaken, someone on this site said that Chow Chows have a gene that prevents blending of colors...

Pigmentation!?
I was wondering to those that are breeders upon this site. Pigmentation is something that has had me thinking about a few years seeing that one of my chows has seemed to "lost" his coloration particulary on his flews. I'll say about roughly less than 50%. I know for sure that certain colo...
